Write the letter that corresponds your answer. THE THREE WISHES There was once a man who was very poor. One day he went for a walk in the forest. “Oh, dear," he said, “I'm so unhappy because I'm poor.” Just then a little elf appeared from behind a tree. The elf said “You poor man! | heard what you said, and | want to help you. Ask whatever you like, and your first three wishes shall be granted.” ‘The poor man was happy now. He ran home and told his wife that an elf granted him three wishes. “How nice,” said his wife, “Let's go eat dinner and talk about what you should wish for.” “I can wish for a big house to live in,” said the man. “You can wish for servants to help me to take care of the house,” said his wife. “I can wish for a horse to ride," said the man. “You can wish for pretty clothes | can wear,” said his wife. On an on they went. They couldn't decide what three things the man should wish for. The man stopped talking. He ate his soup and looked at the dry bread on his plate." Oh | wish | had big sausage for dinner!” he said at last. At that very instant a big sausage ell onto his plate. Of course the man and wife were surprised to see it. “Oh’ the wife said, “You've been very foolish. You wasted a wish on a sausage.” “But | still have two wishes | left,” said the man. “But you don't have three,” said the wife. "You're so stupid." The wife went on complaining | lke that. Finally the man got mad. “I wish that sausage were hanging from the end from your nose!” he said. The next second the sausage was hanging from the end of his wife's nose. Of course the man and his wife were very surprised. The wife began complaining again. “Oh,” she said, ‘you've been very, very foolish. First you wished for a sausage. Then you wished that the sausage were hanging from the end of my nose. That makes two foolish wishes.” “But | stil have a third wish,” the man said. "What good is the third wish when | have | a sausage hanging from the end of my nose?” the wife asked. ‘I looked foolish, and it's your fault.” | And she began to cry. At last the man said, “Oh, | wish that sausage weren't here at alll” At once the sausage disappeared. But now the man was right back where he started. The three wishes had been granted, and he was still poor. He didn't have big house. His wife didn't have any servants. He didn't have horse. His wife didn't have any pretty clothes. Why.
