It is a ready reckoner that parents canrefer to when in doubt. The intent is to keep parents well - informed and updated about school matters. V, children are exposed to all the co-scholastic activities namely Performing Arts, Visual Arts, other enrichment programs like Cooking, Field trips, and more. There are_projectrelated and hands-on learning experiences for all class levels. Most activities are also featured in school calendar. For Classes VI toil, apart from the above, thereare also activitiesrelatedto Inter House, Inter School events and competitions planned through the year. Fine Arts programme and Sports programme move towards specialization andare based on choice andinterest. Classes IX to Xl also have Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) and General Studies as part of their curriculum. The Orchid School has TOS-MUN in association with the Pune Model United Nations (MUN) through June to August. The students of Class Vl to Xilare eligible to enroll for this. ‘The students of Class VIII, Xand XI! have an optional National and international Exchange Programme. ‘The students of Class XII have an optional Internship Program during their summer break. Specific 4) Sports Programme- Std.l- Std. Vhave a general fitness and sports programme conducted by the Leapstart trainers. This isa unique comprehensive sports program. It ensures active participation of all children. Leapstart provides a holistic approach to the Physical Education programme through a comprehensive curriculum, plan, home assignments and assessment schedule through rubrics. Std. tolV-Yoga. Std. VI-XII -. The students choose any one option from Cricket, Football, Basketball, Athletics, Throw Ballanda specially designed Fitness Program. Special coaches are appointed to train students for these sports. Sports coaching for Classes VI to Xilare conducted at Balewadi Sports Stadium, SKP ground and in our school ground. Students who are proficient in a particular sport are encouraged to participate in Inter-School Events like friendly matches, ZP Sports, Shodaya Sport Meet and other outside school events. ‘The students may have to put in extra hours before / after school for extra practice sessions during the sportsevents. Students have to wear the sports/house uniforms and sports shoes on the days when they have sports period. They carryregular school shoes and change after the sports periodis over. VI—VIIL > Co- Scholastic Activity (CSA) time is for students to develop skills and hobbies in which they have flair and interest. This period is once a week. A-Z READY REFERENCE ..7 Admissiot Online Admissions- Registration form for admissions forall levels needs to be filled up and submitted online. Please visit the website-www.theorchidschool.org for more details about the admission process. Admission is open to all children irrespective of race, nationality, religion, caste or gender. ‘There are 35 children in Std. Ito Class X Class x1 and Xil maximum 40 students per division are given the admission. ‘There are 3 divisions per level up to Class X and 2 divisions for Class! &XIl sibling (only directly related) maybe given preference, subjectto vacancy. ‘The child needs to fulfill age criteria as stipulated by the School Managing Committee and ratified upon. Children appear for a Level Readiness Check to assess the performance level and gaps, if any. Thisis done so the school can plan and provide appropriate support from the beginning. Level Readiness Check is done as per the levels - Std. | ~ Oral comprehension and conversation through informalinteraction. Std.Il III- Mathand English Std. IVto Vill (Hindi, Math and English) Std. IXtoX—English, Math, Hindi/Marathi 2" Language) Std. XI & XII - Core subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. It is conducted to help the students make the proper choice of the core subjects. Admission for Class XI will be confirmed only after the submission of relevant documents. Admission for Classes IX to Xilis conducted under the guidelines from CBSE. Foreign nationals need to secure appropriate visa / resident permit and submit relevant documents at the time of admission. Special provision is available for admission of children who come to India on short term visit by completing admission formalities and payment of necessary fees or with special considerations by the School Managing Committee. Children can hold the admission already procured, if they are away for a short duration or if they are going out of India, accompanying their parents on their work assignments. Maximum period one month for Classes |to Xs allowed. Permission has to be taken in writing from the Principal in advance. 75% attendance is compulsory for allclasses. Admission under RTE- 25%seats are reserved as perthe guidelines. Admission Process under RTE: 1. Familyfills the online form on the RTE website 2. Once the schoolis allotted the school processes the admission after verification of documents. 3. Nointerview or testis administered as given in RTE guidelines. Admission withdrawal- From Parent side Ifparentwants to withdraw admission he/she needs to complete the following process: AcZ READY REFERENCE ..8 > Givean application for withdrawal mentioning the last date of child attending school. > FilltheT.C. (Transfer Certificate) application form which isavailable at the school office. > Transfer certificate will be processed within 10 days from the date of the application. > Either ofthe parent (as registered in our records) has the right to withdraw the admission of their ward, unless school is informed otherwise(in writing), especially in case of family disputes or custodial situations. > Submit Deposit Receipt (Certificate for refund (ifapplicable). > In case the parent misplaces the Deposit Receipt / Certificate, 2 copy of the challan along with an application /affidavit (the content of which will specify that no one else would claim this money) has to besubmittedto the school office, > Withdrawal request will not be entertained via mails or telephone calls ‘Admission Cancellation- From school side- > The followingreasons canleadto cancellation of admission > Absenteeisin without prior permission ornon-intimation to school authorities beyond one month. > Less than 75% attendance inthe year for Classes ito XI! > Incomplete payment of fees at the time of admission or installment (this includes fees for Leap start Sports program for class to Class V) > Non-submission of necessary documents or submission of fake documents. > Violation of schoolrules that compromises on the safety, security of the other students Affiliation: > We are affiliated to the CBSE Board up to Senior- Secondary level (Class XIl). Appointments: > Timing to meet Director/Principal/Vice- Principal/Unit Heads/Coordinators/ Counselors| Teachers -Class teachers, Subjectteachers and Special educators- 3.00 to 4.00pm, unless otherwise warranted. > Prior intimation (date and time) must be communicated to the concerned Class Teacher/Role Holder/Staff member to avoid waiting and disappointment. > Since TOS staff wait for one hour after school hours, it is a good time to meet with them with prior intimation. > Saturdays tooare convenient for meetings with the Primary staff. > Appointment can be taken from school office inperson, via mail or over the phone. > Somemeetings ike Parent-Teacher Conferences and Open days are already markedin the calendar. > On PTC day appointments are sent. Parents have to acknowledge by signing the Parent-Conference form. To minimize on waiting time parents have to adhere to the time given. > On Open days, class teachers and subject teachers are available to meet with parents during school hours. Primary and Secondary > A Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) that emphasizes on assessment of Scholastic, Co scholastic and Non- scholastic performancesare followed atall levels, from Std. Co-scholastic assessmentsare done oncea year. > Monthly Testsare taken in Physics, Chemistry, Math Biology, IP. & English > 100% weightage isgiven to Final Board Examin XII Some of the Assessment toolsused: Group discussions and assignments Project work —(library projects, field work projects, experimental and research projects) Scrap books, portfolios, reports and journals Experiments and Demonstrations Role plays, dramatization and presentations Gamesand quizzes Written and Oraltests Open Text Based Assessment- > Open Text Based Assessment is conducted for English, Hindi, Science, Social Science and Mathematics for Class IX and for Biology for Class XI in Summative Assessment Il. Each of this paper will have a separate section of 10 marks for open-text based assessment (OTBA). The testis based on higher order thinking skills. trequires students to apply learning to given situations and draw inferences fromthose. > ASL- Assessment of Speaking and Listening Skill -ASLis conducted in Class IX to XI for English subject as per CBSE guidelines for Summative | and Il. The Assessment is out of 20 marks. These marks reflect alongwith the SAmarksin the report card. > Behavior during assessment: A student, who uses unfair means during tests/exams, receives or gives assistance to other in any form during tests/exams, tampers with answer sheets, found tampering with grades/marks in the Progress Report or school certificates will be given zero in the subject and along with a warning letter. Repetition of the same will resultin repeating the Term Examination. It may even lead to suspension depending on thenature of default. Attendance: > First day andlast day of school after and before vacationis compulsory. > Attendance for Class Concerts, Sports Day, Annual Day, and National Festivalsis compulsory too. > Missing key events will feature in the students report as a negative remark and will affect their ‘cumulative evaluation grade in the non - scholastic domain. Through this we aimto instill a strong sense ofresponsibility and accountability > 75%attendance is compulsory for Classes up to XIl as stipulated by the government. Failure to meet the norms may lead to consequences - like retention in same class, cancellation of admission or not being eligible to attend Board Examination > Absence of prior permission for long leave may affect promotion to next class or cancellation of admission. > Secondary and Sr. Secondary schoo! will work only on two or three Saturdays per month as marked in school calendar. Saturday attendance is compulsory. If absence is more than two days in case of medical reason, thena medical certificate should be submitted. > Avoid taking leave during assessments exceptinmedical cases. Absence for Formative Assessments— > Ifa childis absent fora Pen & Paper test (Unit Test), because of medical emergency reasons, the marks ofother tests taken during that FAperiod will be averaged out. > Ifa childis absent for a Pen & Paper test (Unit Test), for any other reasons, he/she will be marked absent forthat paper. The Test will not be specially planned. > Fornonawritten tests like orals, experiments, recitation, etc. a retest may be administered provided the teacher has been informed well in advance regarding thereason forabsence. » Children need to understand the importance of submission deadlines. For Formative Assessments like research presentations, scrap books, portfolios, etc. the due date is sacrosanct. Unless there is a medical / emergency reason, children may get a zero for not submitting the project on time. In case of medical / emergency reason, project submission date may be extended at the teacher's discretion, but parents need to senda letter regarding such emergencies to the teacher concerned, on or before due date of submission of project. Absence for Summative Assessments — > No leave will be granted during Summative Assessments for personal reasons like marriages, family functions, etc. In absolute emergency / medical cases and cases where the child is representing the school in inter-school events, the school may take a decision to either average out the marks or administeraretest. Attendance for parents- > Attendance is essential for parents on Concerts, Sports Day, Report Day, PTC and all the days as and whenmentioned on school website. > Childs happy to see parent involved & interested inhis/her school life > Attendance for Parent Orientationis compulsory. » Parent—Teacher Conferences are compulsory. > Open day-Attendanceis optional > Workshops) Awareness sessions are designed keeping in mind needs of parents. Hence itis compulsory toattendthesame. Awards: > Rewards are given as incentives and acknowledgement to the students for positive behavior and action. Itis a way to motivate and encourage students to continue to display appropriate behavior and attitude, Students are rewarded for efforts, abilities and achievements. Rewards can be in the form of stars, stickers, merit certificates, medals etc, ‘Awards for Primary and Secondary School > Appropriate categories are discussed and administered, > Maximum Attendance Award - This will be awarded to student/s who has attended maximurn number of daysinthe year. Attitude: > Having positive, respectful attitude towards your child's school, teachers, administrators, service staff, classmates and other parents, help. > Inreturn, parents too get respect andattentionas positive energy attracts everyone. > Chooseapositive attitude. Remember that, our students reflect ourattitude. > Reality keeps changing so does our attitudes and approaches. Bags: > Students should carry appropriate size bag. » Thereare shelves inthe classroom which can store the text books and note books. > Hence the student should carry home only those books which are relevant in terms of homework or preparation foran exam. Gadgets- cell phones, make-up, unwanted material should not be brought to school. These items will be confiscated. > The schoolis notresponsible for goods or money lost. Therefore itis not advisable to bring any valuables (like expensive watches or ornaments) or money to school. Not more than Rs.50 (sufficient for breakfast and lunch) to be carried by any student to school, > Labelall your child's belongings - bag, water bottle, shoes, sweaters, pencil box, books and note books and anything he/she getsto school. Bags- What to carry other than the books? > Std. Ito Std. X: Schoo! diary, napkin, water bottle, snack box, lunch box, pencil box (with 3 sharpened pencils, eraser, ruler anda sharpener), books and note books according to the time table, a cloth bag for library book —All duly labeled. Pens are used for writing from Std. VL A-Z READY REFERENCE ..14 > Pens are used for writing from Std, VI, However in Class V the students can earn to write with pen with teacher's discretion in second term, if they are able to write neatly. > Refrain from bringing expensive pens. > Students are not permitted to carry any personal belongings, toys, special books, gadgets, mobiles, fancy stationery oritems, unless asked for. > For classes Vill to Xl, the students are allowed to carry the cell phones, but they are not allowed to use it during the schoo! hours, > They deposit the cell phones to the Class Teacher and collect back during the hometime. Behaviour: For Parents- > Your words, actions , body language, attitude and behavior influences and impacts the quality of relationship you will develop with the school authorities, your child's teacher/s and his/her friends. The choiceisin your hand. Just remember- Your childis watching you. > Parentsneedto beaware of the school's rules to follow them. » Discipline at home also requires certain ground rules, consistency and consequences.Parents should cooperate with the school by implementing the suggestions made by the school- regarding parking, dress code for their child, attendance, arrival time to school, lunch policy, security requirements ete. > Talk to the child about his/her behaviourand alternative ways for expressinghimself/herself. > If your child complains about another student you need to bring it to the teacher's notice and not approachthe student directly. For Students- > Students are expected to behave in a courteous and gentle manner on all occasions. They should address their teachers and all members of the staff with due respect and politeness. Good moral behaviour and gentle ways are prerequisites of every student. Birthdays are acknowledged in class with singing for the childin the class. » Students may comein colour dress. > Students may distribute one toffee (costing maximum Rs.2)in the class. The toffee shouldnotbeabove this value so as to minimize on unwanted comparison or peer pressure. This is not compulsory and is up toparentdiscretion > Noinvitation will be distributed on the school premises. Book: » Students should take care of their books and theirmaintenance. Ifanotebook gets lost/over the student needs to buy one from the School Store. Ifa student is absent then he/she takes responsibility to cover CW/HW. For younger students it's the parent's responsibility to see that workhas been completed > Incase a textbook gets lost the student has to buyit from the School Store or outside book store. > When a student attends school without text books/notebooks or stationery, the teacher will make a notein the diary. Camps: > Camps/Excursions are part of the learning process during the school years. The school recommends students to participate consideringallthe learningand experiences they will gain > A face to face meeting will be held giving all details regarding the objectives of the program. The students will be accompanied by at least two teachers from The Orchid School and trained facilitators fromthe deployed organization. Nature can be the best classroom for our young impressionable minds. An outdoor experience with excellent guidance and peers can be the most defining and positive experience in a younglife. > Few camps are compulsory and few are optional and need to be paid for by parents.
