frozen moment upon the wall. All of his classmates are planning to
leave for uni or at least knew what they were going to be doing in
the next three months. His girlfriend had planned to do more than
that even, leaving him as well as home for uni life. Standing there,
a million questions call out in is head at once; What does he want
to do with his life? Uni or employment? Is it too late to even turn
things around?… with results day looming, he will have to find the
answers to all of his questions and be quick about it.
Start of Action
• Starts with an over the shoulder shot of Felix
looking at the picture of himself as a child on the
wall. This is cross cut with shots of him panicking in
his exams while a voice over accompanies the on
screen action.
Similar Products
• Film based around an introverted
freshman. Who becomes friends
with 2 seniors, which help him find

Target Audience
• Target Audience: 15-24 year olds.

• This audience would find this story line relatable as

the would have gone through it themselves or even
be going through it in the near future. As well as
this, many comparable films have a similar age
range.
Characters
Felix
• 18 years old - at the end of his
A-levels.

• Average academic ability.

• Thrives creatively. Enjoys

playing piano and guitar.

• Struggling to work out what he

wants to do when he leaves.

• Clothing would be casual and

easy to source as the character
is our age.
Anna (The Girlfriend)
• 18 years old, in the same year as
Felix.

• Excels academically, wants to go

to university to become a doctor.

• Recently broke up with Felix to

move to university as she did not
want to have to deal with a long
term relationship.

• Again casual clothing that is easy

to source.
Friends (Extras)
• Felix would have interactions with friends where he
would look for advice from people he imagines are
more prepared for their futures than himself. This
and his talks with his now ex-girlfriend would lead
to the twist in the narrative.
Location
• Students’ homes (TBD) - Likely start with over the
shoulder shot here. May have some scenes of
Issac at home after school, etc.

• A social area (Coffee shop setup?) - May show

Felix with his friends or revising for his upcoming
exams.

• School (Exam hall) - Felix finally completing his

exams.
The Twist
• Felix discovers that his friends, while looking on the surface
more prepared than himself, are having the same questions
and doubts about themselves.

• This spurs Felix on to choose what he enjoys most, music,

and take it forward at degree level.

• Despite his parents telling him there’s no money to be made

in music performance does it anyway, deciding that doing
what makes him happy is more important to him than how
monetizable it is.

• It turns out he passes his exams.

Narratives Theory)

• Pursuit: Goes on the search to find a future for

himself, finds happiness in the process by deciding
to do something he loves instead of something that
would just earn him money.

• Discovery: Felix discovers what he wants to do

going forward from A-levels.
Meeting the Conventions of a Short
Film

• Due to all the advantages listed in the previous

slide, the production can be kept low budget.

• A small cast size.

• A voice over would be used in the opening to set

the scene.

• The ending has a twist.

Advantages of the Narrative

• Actors easy to find due to the similar ages the

characters are to our own year group.

• Clothing also easy to source for this same reason.

• Locations can be found easily such as a students

house or a classroom at school.
