What are my strengths at the end of this semester?
Professionalism I demonstrate professionalism by having proper attendance, adhering to the facility’s dress code, and by demonstrating respectful behavior to my clinical teacher, peers, staff, and patients. Furthermore, I fully comply with the policies and procedures of Credit Valley Hospital. More importantly, I display sensitivity and respect for clients’ beliefs and values. Accountability I understand that I am accountable to my patients. When performing a task, I make sure that the task is within my knowledge, skill, and judgement. Moreover, I demonstrate accountability in the clinical setting by asking questions and clarifying plans of care, unclear orders or directions, and whenever uncertain to ensure the safety of my client. Asking for assistance allows me to further my learning and ensures patient safety. Working with the Interprofessional Healthcare Team I believe I work well with my peers, clinical teacher, and hospital staff. I contribute as a member of the inter-professional health care team and respond to the changing needs and expected outcomes of clients. When other members of the inter-professional health care team require assistance, I am there to assist. More importantly, I interact with all members of the healthcare team by respecting their roles.
What are my areas of development at the end of this semester?
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving I need to improve my critical thinking and problem solving skills in the clinical setting. For instance, I am able to provide medication information but I struggle to link it with my patient’s condition. I also struggle in independently developing interventions for concept maps based on the patient’s condition. I can improve my problem solving and critical thinking skills as I continue to be exposed to different types of client care. Most importantly, I can improve my problem solving and critical thinking skills by continuously reviewing theory-based content. Time Management Skills As previously mentioned, I need to improve my critical thinking and problem solving skills in the clinical setting. Due to my lack of critical thinking skills, I lack in time management skills because effective time management involves critically thinking how to prioritize my time and efforts. I need to improve on using critical thinking and problem solving to prioritize my patient’s needs. Documentation I am aware that documentation is essential for communicating with other healthcare providers, and is also a comprehensive record of the care that was provided to the patient. I need to further develop the professional jargon I use in my documentation skills. As I continue to be exposed to different types of client care, my documentation will be clear, concise, and accurate.
