Reference Letter Reflection: From a Masters Student

REFERENCE LETTER REFLECTION 2

Hanna is a first year masters student, colleague, and friend I instantly connected with.

She has been a phenomenal colleague and friend throughout the time we have worked together at

Loyola. As Academic Coaches in a small office in Sullivan, we worked closely together in the

past year. I am thankful for Hanna’s reference letter and could not have asked a better colleague

to attest to my work ethic.

Reflecting on the letter Hanna wrote for me, I am thinking of how I come across as a

leader and a professional. I am glad Hanna has seen me as a mentor throughout her first year in

our program. I have taken strides to ensure that I create a welcoming space in all the

environments I am in. When first working with Hanna, my goal was to make sure that she knew

the office dynamics and made myself available to answer any questions she had navigating her

first year. I feel humbled and privileged to have been seen as an individual with upbeat energy

strong work ethic, and genuine care for the students I work with.

One of my strongest values is leading a life of authenticity, which Hanna has seen in my

work ethic. Hanna’s letter has shown me that not only is the work I do with students important,

but also the work I do with my colleagues. Without genuine relationships in the office, I would

not be able to navigate my work life as successfully. My personality and leadership style

influence the way I carry myself and the work I do. With these attributes, I can and will make an

effort to stand out in my next higher education position.
