SUMMARY 2
As much as the western style of life is comfortable and protected from the hardships of the
natural world; it is unappealing. With affluence, comes the need for more time and commitment.
It is possible people prefer the tribal life that require less time and commitment to get by. For
instance, the King people from the Kalahari desert need only twelve hours a week to survive due
to sharing; just one quarter the time needed by an executive in the western lifestyle predicated on
capitalism.
Even though they leave in the harsh Kalahari Desert, the Kung people are able to forage for
enough food to last them a while and thus afford a relatively relaxed pace of their life. The
western lifestyle creates an illusion of affluence and abundance whilst in reality it is a vicious
cycle of financial obligations, desperate work cycles and so on. A lifestyle predicated on the
tenets of agriculture that seeks to promote self-sufficiency. However, agriculture has been in
existence for only 10, 000 years; at the time mankind was practising hunting and gathering. It
takes 25, 000 to inculcate a habit into gene pool and unlike agriculture, early humans adapted
their lives around nomadic lifestyle for millions of years. Nomadic lifestyle is a social and
communal. Agriculture and industrialization changed this perception with more individualistic
principles that sought to increase affluence via capitalism; but at what cost? The current lifestyle
Tribal communities even in the presence day record little to no instances of mental illnesses and
its effects such as suicide. They are forced into communal sharing lifestyle which builds their
social aspects. The current affluent western societies are living outside millions of years of
human experience that shaped human life as social one rather than solitary living.
