Question 1.
The answers to the questions are entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong – only ideas.
Once an idea appeals to you, follow it through. You will be pleasantly surprised at how
quickly a story will emerge from the answers you give.

According with the information above, write a story, use at least 4 of the 6 sentences:
Silvana had never seen Raul look so scared before.
Raul read his wife's diary and discovered that she was sick and that made him very nervous.
The little boy in Raul's family escaped from the house because he did not want to see his
mother sick.
Ben the eldest climbed the nearest mountain in the house to meditate on his behavior with
his sick mother but the family after learning of all the way to accompany the mother in
everything, supporting her and making her happy.

Question 2
Story without a middle
There are three main parts to a story:
The BEGINNING says where and when a story happens and who the people or characters
are.
The MIDDLE tells what happens to these people.
The CONCLUSION tells how the story ends.
Read the story below. It has a beginning and a conclusion but no middle.
SALLY'S PROBLEM
Sally sat at the back of the classroom, looking out of the window. She didn't hear what the
teacher said because she was thinking about her big problem.
Sally's parents were having difficulties in the relationship due to money problems. The
teacher learned that Sally, a very attentive girl, was distracted, so at the end of the class she
approached and asked what was happening to her; She told the teacher and she replied
"Sally the great always have problems in relationships when money is not enough, that's
normal. Do not think that your parents separated, they are just going through a bad time,
call them and let them know that everything will be fine ".
Sally jumped up and ran to the phone. She just knew everything was going to be alright
again.
Now write two ideas what Sally's problem could be:
1. Family Difficulties
2. You fight with your best friend.
Choose the idea you like best, and write about it. Write the story again putting your middle
between the beginning and the end of the story of Sally's problem.
Sally and Celeste have been the best friends since kindergarten, they always stay together,
they even chose the same career at university and study together.
On the weekend they went out to dance with some friends from the university. Sally had a
drink and began to say private things about the life of Celeste who was very offended
because she considers her friend forever.
The next day Celeste angrily tells Sally what happened but she was very angry and
offended. Sally tried to apologize but Celeste was very angry and I do not accept her
apology. Three days passed and the friends did not talk to each other but Sally felt very sad
about what had happened.
Colleagues at the university noticed what was happening between them and decided to talk
to both of them to make them talk. In the end the girls spoke and promised not to stop
talking.
Question 3
Book review
A book report gives the author's name, the book title, and says what the book is about.
Read this book report by one of last year's students.
TITLE: Jaws
AUTHOR: Robert Benchley
TYPE OF BOOK: Adventure
CONTENT: It's about a big shark which eats people when they are swimming.
OPINION: I liked the story. It was exciting and a bit frightening. I've seen the film - that
was good too.
Answer these questions about the book report.

3. What did the student think about the book?
The student thought that the book was very exciting and that the author had a lot of
imagination
4. Was it a love story?
Not, it was an adventure story.
Now read this book review by another student.
"I didn't like the story about the ship; it was boring and the pictures in it weren't very good.
J.R Smith wrote "The Sinking of the Titanic" because his father was killed when the ship
hit an iceberg. More than 1,000 people died when the ship sank. I don't like True Life
stories - I prefer adventures."
The book review is a bit mixed up. Rewrite the information under the headings below.

CONTENT: it's about a ship that hit an iceberg and in the accident the author's father died
and many more people died.

OPINION: I did not like the story about the boat, it was boring and the images were not
very good.

Nicknames Popular
Nicknames are used to describe people, places or things. Many American names have
nicknames. They can help create identities, build unity and help people feel proud of their
community. Some years ago, experts in marketing and advertising were asked to choose the
best nickname for a US city. The winner was the largest city in the country, New York. The
nickname they chose was "The Big Apple".

Where does the nickname "Big Apple" originally come from? In the seventies, New York
suffered image problems. The number of Visitors was falling. A campaign was launched to
give the city a new image and a new nickname. The board of New York chose the
nickname "The Big Apple"

It was not the first time that the nickname was used to describe the city. A journalist from a
New York Popular had used the name "The Big Apple" in the New York newspaper in the
1920s.

The Big Apple was also the Describe of a nightclub in the Harlem area of New York City
in the 1930s, as well as the name of a recorded song and a successful song at that time.

"The Big Apple" is not the only nickname for the largest city in the United States. Almost a
hundred nicknames that describe New York have been City. Some of the best known
nicknames for New York are "The Capital of the World", "Empire City", "Gotham", "The
City So Nice was named twice" and "The city that never sleeps".
