This document describes a second grade social studies lesson plan that uses concept mapping. The lesson involves students identifying where water is found on Earth, such as oceans, glaciers, rivers and lakes. It has two objectives: 1) naming locations of water, and 2) explaining if each location contains solid, liquid or gas water. Students complete related activities like coloring a map and holding cards to identify water states. The concept map is used to assess student understanding of water sources and their states. The document explains that concept maps provide an engaging format for lessons, assessments, reviews and notes.

● Second Grade Social Studies Standard: ● 2.ESS.4 Obtain information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid. 2 learning objectives and activity: ● Objective 1: Student will be able to name where the water is on Earth by listing for example oceans, glaciers locations, rivers, lakes, etc. ○ Activity: Students will be given a map of the world and they will have to color in all of the water locations on Earth. ○ Assessment: The students will have to fill out the concept map naming some of the sources of water they learned during the lesson and activity that they completed. ● Objective 2: Student will be able to explain what form of state each of these locations of water will be: solid, liquid, gas. ○ Activity: Students will be given three cards with the names solid, liquid, or gas on them. I will show a form of water, a glacier, or river for example and they will have to hold up which state that the water will be in. ○ Assessment: The students will have to fill out the concept map for the assessment. They will need to state weather the water source is a solid, liquid, or gas. Answer the question: How might a tool like this be useful to you or your class? ● A concept map is a very useful tool that can be utilized in many different ways. In my example I used it as an assessment, but it can be used for a review, homework, class notes, and more. This will create an interactive and engaging way to incorporate different ideas into your lessons. ● Completed concept map below.
