SIGNATURE SERVICE DAYS | VOLUNTEER LEADER TRAINING


Thank you for volunteering with the Office of Civic & Social Responsibility. Our office is able to have continued service
projects and programs because of people like you who commit to leading, learning, and serving in our community.

STEP 1: STAFF MEETING + SET-UP


 7:00 am – All staff and Volunteer Leads convene and review the plan of the day.
 7:30 am – Volunteer Leads begin setting up the CEC to prepare for the volunteers (check task list).
 8:00 am – Begin check-in procedures.

STEP 2: CHECK-IN
 8:30am – Volunteers arrive to the Community Engagement Center
 Volunteers check-in at front desk. They track their hours via their MavCARD and fill out a waiver form.
 Volunteers sign-up for a project and eat breakfast.

STEP 3: PRE-REFLECTION AND DEPARTURE


 8:45am – Everyone convenes in the lounge, Service Supervisor introduces topic and dismisses groups to reflection rooms.
 8:50 am – Project dismissal – You need to listen for your organization & room # before going to do pre-reflection!!!!!
When your project is dismissed, do the following:
• Waive your hand so people know they are going with you!
• Walk your volunteers to the reflection room
• Take roll call – place a check mark next to each volunteer’s name on the sign-up sheet
• Make sure your volunteers have a name tag and appropriate clothing
 9:10 am – Volunteer Leads take their groups to their assigned bus.
• Take roll call – place a check mark next to each volunteer’s name on the sign-up sheet

STEP 3: COMMUNICATION
 Introduce yourself to your bus driver. Confirm the address/project site.
 Call your Project Contact. Introduce yourself: say you are leaving UNO & tell them the # of volunteers
 Tell your volunteers not to leave anything on the bus.
 Introduce yourself to the Project Contact and figure out the following:
• When/Where will they talk about the mission and vision of their organization?
• Where will people take breaks and eat snacks?
• Does anyone in your group have special accommodations?
• Ask them to give a tour of the organization.
• Division of labor & duties and explanation of items to complete

STEP 4: HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE!


 SAFTEY IS OUR FIRST CONCERN. Please follow procedures if there is an incident.
 Keep morale and spirits high! Walk around and make sure people are having fun and on-task.
 Communicate with your Project Contact if you have questions about the tasks.

STEP 5: RETURN/TEAR DOWN


 1:00pm – bus arrives to return to the CEC. Please make sure you have everyone!
• Take roll call – place a check mark next to each volunteer’s name on the sign-up sheet
 1:30pm – arrive at UNO, eat lunch, complete post-reflection and post-assessment.
• Take roll call – place a check mark next to each volunteer’s name on the sign-up sheet
 Tell volunteers they will NOT get service hours credit until they complete the post-assessment.
 Dump ice out of cooler outside and bring it back into the office. Assist with cleaning/tear down as needed.
