-Due to electrons being stable in 3d series, period 4
outermost orbital (4s), since that d 4d series, period 5
electrons fill inner orbitals, so they shield 5d series, period 6
outer electron from increasing nuclear
charge very efficiently.

• No size increase from period 5 to 6.


-Due electron going into 4f.
- Increase nuclear charge due to
addition of extra 14 proton (which equal to the
number of electron in 4 f orbital).
-Outer electron held more tightly by
Nucleus.
