Amanda Bucklew‘As the department managers ofthe junior’s dress department of Macy's, we decided to
conduct a survey in order to mcrease dress sales and make the dress-shopping experience more
proficient and enjoyable for customers during the Homecoming season In carrying out this
survey, we will be able to discover:
~The stock: of different colored dresses needed
~The price of dresses to compete with other dress stores
~The number of salesmen needed on the foor to assist in dressing rooms
In years past, during the Homecoming season, we have nm low on a color of dress and had an
abundance of another color, leading our customers to seek the color of dress they would prefer
elsewhere. Also, our top competitors have increased dress sales during Homecoming season,
wile we have remained stagnant By looking at the prices girls have spent on their dresses, we
can match those prices to attract more customers. We also find that our dressing rooms are under
stocked during the Homecoming season, and by looking at how many dresses gris typically ty
on befbre buying them, we can account for the number of staff we need on the floor to assist in
dressing rooms, Using a stratified sample of 40 local high school girls, we conducted a three-
question survey, which produced the following results
‘The data set below lists the color of 40 gris Homecoming dresses.

Price (in dollars)Using the histogram, we are able to see the average price ranges of what customers are willing to
spend on a Homecoming dress. Using this graph, we see that the majority of the customers spent
between $20 and $78. We are also able to see that the two least common price ranges were $315-
$373 and $433-$491. In order to please the large mumber of people that were willing to spend
$20-$78, we should have our biggest selection of dresses within that price range and include
some dresses within the larger price ranges to make sure that we can please as many customers
as possible
