1. Organization of the DepEd

Reporter: Elenette B. Andamon

In the first part of the report it is very important that the reporter talks about the history of DepEd.
Because of this I understand the history of our educational system from pre-Spanish times to the
present. During the Spanish period the center of education is in the Catholic religion, then came
the Americans and the Japanese which also introduced their educational system to us. The
reporter also talks about the structure of DepEd which is the Secretary of Education is the highest
office. Under it are the five attached agencies to DepEd like the Early Child Care Development
Council, The National Book Development Board, National Council for Children’s Television,
National Museum, and Philippine High School for the Arts. DepEd has 17 Regional Offices, 221
Provincial and City School Division with 2,602 Schools District headed by a District Supervisor.
There 62,605 schools with 49,209 elementary composed of 38, 648 public and 10,561 private. It
is also has 13,396 secondary schools with 7,976 public and 5420 private.
As a student in this level it is very important to understand the biggest Institution in our
government which is the DepEd on how it is run by our leaders as well as knowing our
Superintendents and it subordinates.

2. Commission on Higher Education

Cherry P. Tubiano

I learned that CHED before was part of the Education department until it was separated and focus
more on the tertiary level and graduate education. It is good that the reporter emphasize the
pertinent laws that made this office function like the Executive Order number 330 which states
that “Adopting the expanded tertiary level education equivalency and accreditation program as
an integral part of the educational system and designating the CHED as the authority responsive
for its implementation. As a Masterand, I now realized the very essence of CHED in relation to
DepED specially its powers and functions like monitoring and evaluating the performance
program of Colleges and Universities, formulate and recommend development plans, policies and
priorities and programs of higher education institutions.

3. TESDA organizations and ALS

Dezza B. Ceballos

The reporter explains us well the difference between TESDA and ALS. According to him that TESDA
is more on the vocational side and skills of an individual while the ALS is more on those students
who dropped out which their age do not correlate to their level of education that is why they
must take ALS in order for them to go to the higher level which is also equivalent to their age.
For me I think the most effective in order for a student to succeed is to let him enrol in TESDA in
order for her or him to find a decent job, or make her or his own business since he knows already
the skills I understanding technical concepts. Because the vision of TESDA is in for the
development of the Filipino workforce with world class competence and with positive work values
that will make us Filipinos in demand abroad.
The reporter also give emphasis to TVET which there are two classification the formal system and
the non-formal. Formal system is the post-secondary technical education of six months to three
years which entitles the students a certificate in a specialized field. While the Non-formal system
consist of a variety of short term programs usually up to six months targeting a special group. This
includes those seeking employment in the government, special interest organizations, services
and salesmanship. For me our government is always looking for any technique and style in order
to educate the Filipino people so that they will be employed and become an asset of this nation.
