PROCEDURES :

WARNING : Avoid spilling ninhydrin solutions on your skin, as the resulting stains are difficult to
remove. (Ninhydrin is the most commonly used method to detect fingerprints, as the terminal
amines or lysine residues in peptides and proteins sloughed off in fingerprints react with ninhydrin).

1. 1 ml glycine solution was added with 2 drops of 0.5% ninhydrin solution.


2. The solutions were mixed and boiled in water bath for 2 minutes.
3. The colour of solution was recorded. Development of blue colour indicated the presence of
amino acid.
4. The same steps were repeated for another sample.
