ENTERPRISE DATA MANAGEMENT

2) Problem Owner: Association of Students at San Diego State University

3) Proposal: The program proposes to increase the accuracy and efficiency of managing and organizing
data by creating a relational database of all the events organized, funds managed, number of people
coming to the events.

4) Business need: Currently, the data of the events organized, funds managed by the organization, and
total number of people coming to the events is recorded in an excel file which makes it difficult to
organize and manage.

a) Data stored in an excel spreadsheet is more prone to inaccuracy as data is entered manually and
there may be a chance of duplicate entries.
b) Data Redundancy exist in excel spreadsheet which causes data inconsistency leading to
incorrect calculations and makes data retrieval slow.
c) There is no way to trigger notifications on the email and mobiles of the treasurer team incase if
the funds are very low.
d) Data Integrity – Data in the excel spreadsheet is less secure as they easily accessible manually.

5) Business Activities: Using this database solution:

a) The event management team members can add new events and keep the track of the all the
previous events organized.
b) The treasurer team members can add new funds and keep the track of all the previous funds
added.
c) The cultural and event management team members can decide event scope, event activities,
and, number of people coming to the events, based on the funds available.

6) Business Value: A database will provide a medium for proper management of the data by ensuring
correct and unique data entry. This would increase the efficiency of overall system by improving the
accuracy, reducing the errors and reducing time-on-task.

7) Constraints: The database must be developed within a budget of $500. The Database must be
operational by 01 April 2018 to cover all the lined-up events and meetings with the various fund
sponsors.
