INTERVIEWER: Let me know, if there will be someone more lover and famous
than you in Latin America?

INTERVIEWEE: I do not know, but I think that the most important thing is to make
a work of teaching, especially with children.

IR: Could you tell me, In how many countries, ‘El Chavo del Ocho’ was seen?

IE: The videos have been seen in all Latin American countries except Cuba.

IR: Roberto Gomez, Did you take “chiquitolina” pills?

IE: I think so, but something must have happened because usually the people
exceeds the 1.60 cm, and I didn’t.

IR: How “El Chapulín Colorado” was born?

IE: I was a writer, I was not an actor or anything like and I was wager to do a
character as “El Chapulin”. I wrote it without thinking about me and I offered it to
many actors but they said that they didn’t like it. Later, I had the chance to do a TV
program in a new channel and I did it. The second feature began to give an intense
fame and I was very happy, off course!

IR: In what year did you begin to conceive the character?

IE: The first time that the program was on air was in 1969. I am about to turn 40
years with it.

IR: Where did “la chiripiorca” come from?

IE: It comes from a mental problem. Once I put to the “Chompiras” with a physical
defect: he could not take control about several actions in what the body disobeyed
to his brain. So many years after I learned that exists a disease like that and I left it
to the character.

IR: And, why this name?

IE: In the Spanish, there is a Little fowl that is called almost equal: chiripiorca. Is
small, as a hummingbird I imagine, because I only read the description. I named it
with “l” instead “r” :chiripiolca

IR: How much of “El Chavo” was there in Roberto when he was a child?

IE: I guess that the likeness is very large, mainly in the shyness. I have been shy
so many times in my life

IR: Which was the Chavo´s name?

IE: That is a big trap, but you are not going to obtain it (laughter). I don’t know it.
He is named as any person that is watching TV.

IR: When you was a child, Did you want to be a boxer?

IE: Yes, I was going to be a boxer, but fortunately I did not right now. I thought that
boxing is very violent sport where the goal is hit to other person.

IR: also, I knew you were going to study engineering, what happened?

IE: I should have studied engineering, but I changed my mind. I am very happy of
being an actor.
