JOURNAL # 2

Q: How do you think you could best motivate yourself to be the best version of yourself as a leader?
If there are no restrictions at all, what kind of a leader do you want to be for your subordinates and the
people around you?

Personal Reflection:
To be motivated as the best version of my self as a leader first, is I need defined/know my core functions
second understand/know my members (by identifying their strengths and weaknesses, motivating them,
acknowledged their potentials) lastly, bare in mind the mission and vision of the company/group
organization. I agree and consider the new year greetings of Daniel Goleman in his twitter post On January
1, 2020 it says “I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes,
then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself,
changing your world. If ever I fail or the group or organization fails I don’t call it a failure, I call it a lesson. I
never afraid to explore, venture, discover, learn new things, ideas with my group because with we will all
grow, prosper and elevate us to the next higher level everyday.

Q: What are the specific qualities or behaviors do you want to develop to be an emotionally intelligent
leader? Describe the ideal outcome or goal for yourself. What is the deeper meaning or personal
significance that this goal has for you?

Personal Reflection:

Aside from considering the top-five-list of my High5 Strengths Self-assessments result (1. Strategist, 2.
Coach, 3. Analyst 4. Philomath, 5. Peace maker), (to be the best version of myself), I would like to consider
the following;
a. Emphatizer. -I need to consider others feelings. This will guide/help me in considering ones
differences
b. Stay focus. - In times of conflicts possible due to multiple tasks at hand. I need to stay focus and be
determine to do must functions well.
c. Consider feedback as guide – Feedbacking may tends to do good or harm, it may all depends of the
person who shall received the feedback. To be an emotionally intelligent leader, I consider feedback
as my guide/mirror-reflections/essential informations to function well.
d. Lastly,

Q: What aspects of your leadership life do you feel will be improved by the learnings in this training
program? Reflect on situations you came across in the past that you feel you could’ve handled it better.
Do you want to develop in this area? Why is it essential for you to improve on this? Set a metric on how
you will know if you’ve attained your desired outcome?

Personal Reflection:

Good Communicator.
With this training, I was able to understand that a leader should be a good communicator or can
communicates well.
This is to covey or deliver ideas, messages, instructions clearly. I understand that instructions or ideas must
be made clear to refrain from confusions and misunderstandings. Most conflicts, problems arise due to
miscommunications. Before, I used to talk in vernacular or not confident enough with my writing skills.
Through this training I was able to understand myself, knows well on my strength and weakness – that I
need not to be intimidated for those who are good in writing. This training helps me to understand that I
need to improve my skills, find ways, have target plan and check on the progress. The best thing to do is
compare your present self to your previous self not to compare your self to the performance of others.
Q: Based on the results of the High5 Test, what are those strengths telling you about you and your
capabilities? In what situations do you see those strengths demonstrated/magnified the most? Think
about the jobs, tasks, roles in your company that you can display your Top 5 strengths?

Personal Reflection:

Based from the High5 Test result I was able to know my self better, understand the way how I think, made decision,
and view other things. Being Strategist (top 1 in the list), I consider this as true. I always view situations like –“taking
the helicopter view”. There was s time, I’d experienced unfair or unfavorable scenaiors, I always think of the bigger
picture like – this was happen because of reasons, the decision made was with bases, if the favour is not for me now I
definitely sure that there will come a time I shall be given an expected favor. Coach, Analyst, Philomath, Peace
Keeper follow next. As the Senior Education Program Specialist for School Management, Monitoring and Evaluation I
believe that these top strengths of mine are essentials in delivering my task. One of my core function is to give
Technical Assistance to the Schools through their school heads. Hence, it is important to look at the bigger picture in a
situation, looking into the potential of the school heads, analyze situation in order to find the root cause, resolved
conflicts and etsblish harmony, more importantly learn new things.

Q: How can you capitalize on your strengths to address your areas of development in the 4 quadrants of
the Emotional Intelligence? What do you see as possible first steps to accomplishing your goal of
becoming an emotionally intelligent leader? What might you do to take you closer to that? What could
you do differently this time around?

Personal Reflection:

Since my self-Management skill score high in the test, I believe I am aware on what I see in my self. What
that I need to do more being Strategist, Coach, Analyst, Philomath, Peace Keeper.
