Title of lesson: Environment Cause and Effect

Your Name: Megan Joyce

Length of lesson: 2 days

Context of Lesson: Students just finished learning about Mesoamericans and this is an intro into the
end of the year unit dealing with reading strategies and dealing with cause and effect

Overview: Students take notes from a PowerPoint, make connections between different cause and effects,
and do a reading about the Aral Sea and reasons why it dried up.

Central problem/ Essential question: What were the reasons the Aral Sea dried up and what were some
effects because of it?

Objectives:

Students will know/be able to:

 Identify Causes and effects based off of text

Anticipated student conceptions or challenges to understanding: Students might draw attention to


irrelevant subject matter or use prior knowledge to write down answers instead of using the text to justify
their evidence.

Materials/Evidence/Sources:

 Projector
 Packet of worksheets
 Expo Markers

Instructional Sequence:

1. Go over PowerPoint slides have students take notes and make inferences based on pictures
within PowerPoint on notes page in the packet

2. Have students make 3-5 connections on word scramble sheet of packet. About something that
effects something else.

3. Read article and complete the chart on pack of packet with boxes for causes and the effects.
Students should highlight where they find the answers in the reading.

Attach all handouts, texts, images, lecture notes, etc.
