Standard 6: Assessment

Multiple methods of assessment will be used by the teacher to engage students in their own

growth, document progress, and guide the teacher’s ongoing planning and instructions. The teacher will

implement summative and formative assessment as appropriate to the lesson and for documentation of

learner growth and progress. The teacher will engage students with their lessons and track students

understanding. The teacher will use multiple assessment strategies to verify the students understanding,

growth and progress.

Currently in courses MUSE 150 and MUSE 250 at Ball State University, I have begun learning

how to assess students. I had not notice that there would be types of assessments such as formal and

summative. I have begun to learn better strategies to assess. I typically listen to my peers while in peer-

teaching and do corrections on the spot. I would like to better organize my assessment strategies so that

the students’ progress isn’t just on the spot.

Courses such as MUSE 150, MUSE 250 and other tech courses will build my understanding of

assessment techniques. I have learned multiple strategies to guide success for my peers. I am learning

the difficulties of understanding student’s differences with learning and correlating that to the strategy I

may use with my lesson. In the future I would like to notice the different learning patterns of my

students faster and use appropriate strategies for the lesson for smoother and better understanding of

my lesson.
