How to Use げんこうようし(Composition Paper) Correctly

Genkooyooshi is widely used in Japan for the purpose of writing papers

and novels. It contains 400 boxes (20 x 20) and divided in the middle
by extra line that was used when they bound many pages. Also the
narrow lines between boxes are used for the purpose of teachers'
corrections and editing. In JPN101, you are going to write three
compositions (in Chapter 1, 2 and 3) by using Genkooyooshi. So
please remember the following important points:

1) The writing starts with the right-top corner.

2) The location of “bowtie” and numbers (20 x 20) shows that this
paper is in the right direction.

3) The first line is for a title, which start from the forth box.

4) The second line is for your name, which has to have one blank
box below it.

5) Indent, which shows the beginning of a paragraph is only one

box.

6) The hyphen that shows a long vowel become vertical when you
write vertically.

7) A big letter, a small letter or a punctuation mark all takes a box

each.

8) A small letter and a punctuation mark are located in the right-top

corner of the box.

9) A dot between Katakana words is located in the center of the

box.

10) If a punctuation mark (a period or a comma) has to come

at the beginning of the line, it has to be squeezed into the last
box of the previous line.

11) You can cut a word if you run out of the box at the end of
the line

12) Don’t leave any box blank except for indent and at the end
of a paragraph.
