Book Club Presentation:

Applying Literary Theory

Assignment: Your group will prepare and present an analysis that successfully applies literary
theory to your book club novel. Your group must choose ONE lens through which you will examine
the text and explicate a thorough analysis.

Schools of Criticism (Lenses):

Your presentation MUST:

 Convey a sophisticated claim that sets the stage for your analysis
 Provide an appropriate summary of the novel/necessary background information
 Offer a detailed overview of the lens
 Pose critical questions related to your analysis of the text
 Deliver a thorough analysis of the text that…
o Addresses aforementioned questions
o Cites and explains at least four pieces of text evidence
o Draws a final conclusion that demonstrates a thoughtful application of the
lens and reinforces the claim
 Be 5-7 minutes long

Remember to:
 Utilize visuals to enhance your presentation (Google Slides, Power Point, etc.)
 Properly cite your sources and include a “Works Cited” slide
 Proofread to avoid mistakes with spelling, punctuation, and grammar
 Email Ms. Murphy the final version of your presentation BEFORE you present!

You will have three days in class to work with your group members. Every member of your group
MUST CONTRIBUTE EQUALLY while preparing AND presenting.
