Aqeedah: Why So Important?

“Have you not seen how Allah has given the parable of a
beautiful kalimah like a beautiful tree whose roots are
firmly established, and whose branches tower the sky? It
gives its fruits at all times by the permission of its Lord and
Allah sets forth parables for mankind in order that they
may remember.”
[Surah Ibrahim 14: 24-25]
25]

Trees symbolize life itself, as they are the fundamental

building blocks of life - to the air we breathe, the food we
eat and the homes we live in. Our imaan
ima (faith) can be
likened to a tree, which, like a tree, needs to be taken care
of. Let your tree of iman grow and take you up to the
heights of jannah!

In this ayah, La ilaha illah Allah i.e. imaan has been likened to a beautiful tree.

 As mentioned
oned earlier, the tree symbolises life – just like trees are the basis of the
ecosystem – the kalimah gives us a purpose for life.
Sustenance – Trees provide food for sustenance – akin to how the kalimah provides us
with spiritual sustenance.
Shade – Trees provide shade and protection from heat – the same way the kalimah will
protect you from the evils of this world and the punishment of the hereafter.

“whose roots are firmly established…” [14:24]

A tree with firmly established roots symbolises stability – similarly having iman provides
us with this anchor.
Once the roots go deep, it’s almost impossible to uproot a tree,
tree which iss why in hurricanes
for example we often see trrees with deep roots remaining upright.
The parable of the beautiful tree also refers to the believer – indicating that the kalimah is
firm in the believer’s heart.

“…and whose branches tower the sky.” [14:24]

Thee same way a towering tree cannot be hidden, imaan also cannot be hidden.
Similarly, with this imaan the believers will rise up in the ranks of paradise.

When imaan truly exists in the heart,

it will manifest in our speech
spe and actions

“It gives its fruits at all times by the permission of its Lord…”
Lor [14:25]
Abdullah bin `Umar said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah when he asked, “Tell me
about a tree that resembles the Muslim, the leaves of which do not fall in summer
sum or winter
and gives its fruit at all times by the leave of its Lord.''
Lord.'' Ibn `Umar said, "I thought of the date
palm tree, but felt shy to answer when I saw that Abu Bakr and `Umar did not talk. When
they did not give an answer, the Messenger of Allah said,
sa “ItIt is the date palm tree.” When we
departed, I said to `Umar, `My father, by Allah! I thought that it was the date tree.' He said,
`Why did you not speak then' I said, `I saw you were silent and I felt shy to say anything.'
`Umar said: Had you said it,
i it would have been moree precious to me than such and such.”

[Bukhari, Muslim]
The believer is just like the date palm tree, always having good actions that benefit
themselves and others, day and night.
