Like in many other countries, structural damages to lined irrigation
canal are found in Indonesia also. The paper discusses the modular
channel lining technology using pre-cast concrete sections to minimize
the damages. However, effort is needed to popularize this technology in
place of the currently used stone masonry work, which is damage-prone. As
a practical solution to the channel lining problem using stone masonry,
the modular concept appears better. The Abstract is put in “Weak
accept― category.

Although this paper does not deal directly with irrigation techniques as
stated in Question 61, it does describe a unique activity in canal
rehabilitation. The paper also deals with the cultural aspects of
modular lining of canals.
