ABSTRAK

Obesity is the increase in the number of fat cells in the body because
of the imbalance between energy input and energy released, where the energy
input is greater than the expenditure. Obesity is a major risk factor for
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA is a sleep disorder that involves a
significant decrease in air flow but there is still a breathing effort. Increased
prevalence of obesity causes a high risk of OSA. Therefore, the purpose of this
study was to determine the relationship between obesity and risk of suffering
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This research method is analytical research
with Cross Sectional study design. Samples were taken with Purposive
Sampling method of 28 people.
Data analysis using Spearman Correlation test. Based on the result of
statistic test, the correlation (r) value is 0,569 indicates correlation with
medium strength between obesity and risk of suffering Obstructive Sleep
Apnea (OSA) to civil servants in the Department of Investment and Integrated
Licensing Services One Door of Deli Serdang Regency in 2017. Value p = 0.002
(<0.005) so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between obesity
and risk of suffering Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) on civil servants in the
Department of Investment and Integrated Licensing Service One Door of Deli
Serdang Regency in 2017.
