Chapter 10 Outline

Lesson 1: The Articles of Confederation

Objectives:
o To understand and identify the shortcomings, or weaknesses, of the Articles of
Confederation
o To understand how Shays’s Rebellion showed a sign of weakness in the central
government
o To name leaders that wanted to change the Articles of Confederation and those that did
not want it to change, and their reason why.

Grade:
o To write an ACE response to the following question: What are the shortcomings of the
Articles of Confederation?

Lesson 2: The Constitutional Convention

Objectives:
o To understand the original reason for the Constitutional Convention
o Recognize what was established at the convention to resolve an issue or make a
compromise
o To understand what the outcome from Constitutional Convention was

Grade
o Quick quiz about Constitutional Convention information
o What was the original purpose for delegates to meet at the Constitutional
Convention?
o What is a compromise? What was done to make a compromise with such a large
number of delegates?
o What was the outcome, or end result, at the conclusion of the Constitutional
Convention?

Lesson 3: Three Branches of Government

Objectives:
o To know the three different branches of government
o To know what each branch of the government does

Grade
o To demonstrate a tree map by expressing and detailing your understanding of the three
branches government, what their roles are and who is included in each branch
Lesson 4: Approval and the Bill of Rights

Objectives:
o To understand the Bill of Rights and why it was added to the Constitution
o To know the importance of the Cabinet and how they help the President
o To understand the term ‘ratify’ in regards to making laws
