amounts of gratitude for the 4 $25,100/year
clinic. One patient told me that
without Maliheh’s help, he 5 $29,420/year
would not be here right now 6 $33,740/year
because he was not able to 7 $38,060/year
afford traditional healthcare.

Volunteer Office

• This is where the volunteers met

before every shift. Tammy Garfield,
the volunteer coordinator, would go
over the itinerary for the day.
• This is where we got our jobs for
the day. Jobs ranged from scanning
medical records, working the front
desk, sorting through medications,
and/or cleaning bathrooms.
• There are checks on the walls of
the office showing some of the
donation amounts given to the
clinic. Maliheh Free Clinic operates
entirely on private donations.
Patient Assistance Program

• Most of my time at Maliheh Free

Clinic was spent in Patient
Assistance Program.
• The goal of this office is to help
patients apply for and get
medication from pharmaceutical
companies, free of charge.
• All medications are sent to the
clinic and then a call is placed to
the patient for pick-up.
Medical Records Room

• The clinic is moving to a new building

this summer and they are switching over
to a new electronic medical record
system. This room is full of old medical
records that needed to be scanned into
the computer system and then shredded.
• I spent a full 4 hour shift scanning
medical records. And although it was not
the most stimulating task, it needed to
be done. Doing little tasks helps with the
bigger picture.
Front Desk

• 90% of patients who are seen at the

Maliheh Free Clinic speak another
language. (Most are Spanish
speakers)
• These two ladies work the night
shift from 4-8:30 and speak Spanish
and Tongan.
• There is always a translator on sight
for interpretive services.
