This week, I tried to figure out what rules that the teacher had instituted in my classroom.

There were no posted rules, but there are a few that I speculated about. I assumed that there was

a rule against talking over Mrs. Sutton. She would call out people, sometimes individually, when

they talked over her. Another rule I suspected was that the students needed a hall pass to leave

the classroom. However, I noticed this because I heard Mrs. Sutton tell a student that he didn’t

need a hall pass for the thing that he was leaving to do. I also noticed that there may have been a

rule against students leaving their seats. When a student tried to get up out of his seat, Mrs.

Sutton firmly told to sit back down.

I think that these rules are very appropriate. No teacher should have to put up with

students talking over them. Also, hall passes are important because students can’t simply walk

out in the middle of class. However, the student who got out of his seat did so at a time when no

teaching was happening, so I’m not sure why she was so firm with him.

As far as specific procedures go, I would say that the hall pass policy is the only one I

saw. Again, I think it is an important policy because students cannot just leave in the middle of

class. If I were the teacher, I don’t know if I would change any procedures. I think the class was

ran as smoothly as I could have been.
