Hi everyone. Ammm… This is my final reflection video of evaluation… and well. I’m
going to explain you what I have learned. What is evaluation and what implies a real
evaluation. And, and then I’m going to give you my perspective from, from all this.
And what I have u nderstand from all this course.

I must confess that a the beginning of the course. I have no idea of what evaluation
involves and what implications it has. So for me evaluation it was, it was not much to
work on it. It was not a big deal, because to be honest, when I hear evaluation, amm,
the first thing that comes to my mind it was an exam, a test and that was all. A test in
which students must sussed or, amm achieve let’s say, ammm, a determined level.
But I’m going to tell you the definition of evaluation. Evaluation in the context of
learning is the act of giving feedback, following the analysis of a process,
accomplishment or a combination thereof. And what does this means because it is
very... It’s so easy to get confused with this definition or wer, well, to get confuse
with just the term of evaluation.
Sussed: I should use “be sussed”, because of the modal verb “must”.
Confuse: I should say this verb in past simple.

This means the more analysis the more feedback we will have and if we have a deeper
analysis we will have a deeper feedback. And we would, we would ask to ourselves.
Why is feedback so important for this process? Well, feedback help us to know how
much our students have learned. This reflects the knowledge that they understand
and this helps, this help us as teacher to know and to be aware of how much or what,
how much we are teaching to them and how we are teaching them. So, for… During
the course was realizing that evaluation is not the same that a test and evaluation has
a lot of implications that we, we usually don’t understand or we don’t want to be
aware of it. So yes, emm, evaluation involves a set of factors that are needed to take
into account.
As we know languages have been taught by grammar, spelling, structures and
theoretical knowledge that students have learn, but it’s necessary that students know
how to use those structures and grammar on real-life communication of a different
language. In this case in English. So it’s necessary that we help our students to
develop abilities for that determined, eh, language. So, amm, if we consider that there
are some aspect that… aspects that standardized tests cannot measure. For example
the fact that students memorize information because, ah, for example, they have at
the next day a test, they only memorize the information, so we don’t know if they
are, they are a significant learning or they are just memorizing. And that, that, those
are some aspects that standardized tests can not measure. And also we as teachers, eh,
as a result, we cannot realized if they are really understanding, if they are really having
a learning, a good learning process or not. And so that’s why we as teachers must be
aware of how we teach, according to make our students have this significant
learning. Because on the way we teach is going to depend how we are going to
evaluate them.
Learn: I should say this verb in past participle form.
Real-life: I should say the determiner “the”, before real-life.
Realized: I should use this verb on present simple.
Depend: I should use a the preposition “on” after depend.

Thi is how I get to the next point because I started thinking that the real problem it
was the tests that we applied, for, emm, to evaluate. I thought that tests are not
useful because I started to consider that even though we are trying to apply the use of
the technology to, to evaluate our students, it was just the same, amm, We realized
that applying tests with technology, we were making the same mistakes, because it
was nothing more than a test but instead of, instead of a piece of paper it was in a
computer, so it was not a difference, and the problem was tests, for me.
But then we started to analyze in how actually tests must be planned and it involves
many aspect that I consider that many teachers d oes not take into account.
Aspect: The singular countable noun aspect follows the quantifier many, which
requires a plural noun.
Does: I should use “do” for the plural noun.

If we say that during the course we were preparing our students to, to give an oral
presentation. Well, we must know that we can not give them just a test in which they
fulfill all the information of all the theoretical information of what it’s needed for
giving an oral presentation. Those aspects probably they will succeed the test and
that’s not enough, because we also need that they show to us as teachers, that they
know how to give an oral presentation, not just how to, not just what is need to give
an oral presentation, it’s how they can apply an oral presentation, how they are going
to perform that knowledge that has been, amm, has being teached into, during the
course.
Being: I should use the correct form of the verb “been”.
Teached: I should use the correct past participle of the verb.

So going back to the point of tests, well, we, if we are going to evaluate with a test as I
just mentioned, we must know how to plane what is going to come to the… What we
are going to put on this test. We can not just prepare exercises that they just fulfill
and that’s all the test. They must have context and have a real and useful context.
They must know how to use what they are learning during the class. They must
know how to use it when they are not in the class. Let’s say if students are learning
how to use some structures, Well in the test we must make them to demonstrate that
they can use those structures in formal and informal conversations. So that we as
teachers know that they really understand what we try to teach them. What we are
teaching them.

So amm, for the next point, I must say that I consider that evaluation it’s very
affected, amm, with the environment. Because it’s different on each country this
process of evaluation, because of the culture. I mean in our culture we are not
familiar with some aspects. For example that our teachers demonstrate. I mean,
demand to us as students punctually and constancy, because we are not accustomed
that they ask to us those different rules, so we don't know how to accomplish with
those points that they expect that we fulfill.

So we as students face to different problems. for example, as I just mentioned. Our
teachers doesn’t used… Don’t used to ask to us or demand to us some of those
aspects.
That’s the reason why, when a different teacher comes and tries to demand those
aspects when he tries to evaluate with a different way for example with a project, we
don't know how to fulfill their expectations. And it's a really problem for our culture
because it affects how, how students develop, different skills.
Finally, I think that we as teachers have a really huge responsibility because we must
make our students be aware that what they are doing right now it’s affecting them
for the future. And well firstly as teachers also must. We must be aware that this
depends of, on us. On how we teach to them. How we make them to be motivated
during the class, during the course, and how we manage those aspects, how we make
them to understand and comprehend, and all those aspects of test and that also they
can, a nd that they can enjoy during the process.

So well, amm, for me the whole perspective of evaluation has change for all my life.
so I will never s een evaluation at the same way as I used to see the… that point.
So I thank to my classmates because, we, we have been learning together during all
this process, and I need to say that, it was really useful to work with them because as
we learn also this feedback is very important. So the knowledge is not individual
actually, we learn together and we comprehend together much better than maybe I
could comprehend by my own. So I thank to them because, amm, we realized of
those aspects also together. So it was a good experience for me.
