Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Students are able to engage in watching a fun video inside or outside of
class. The video contains words, voice, and picture examples of pollution, so students are able to get the full
effect.

Lesson idea implementation: This video will serve as an introduction to the unit on the effects of pollution.
The teacher will play the video at the start of class so that the students develop an initial understanding of
what pollution is and the effects on the planet and animals. The video is only a few minutes long, but it will
segway into the larger lesson.

The learning will be extended after the video when the teacher divides the class into groups in order to create
a poster on a specific pollutant and their effects on the environment. The students will be assessed on their
final poster and they will receive feedback from me on their poster as well. The lesson will be concluded once
every group presents their poster to the class.

Importance of technology: The video provides students with a concise way of introducing and overviewing
the topic. It is also easier and more interesting for students to watch an animated video instead of listening to
the teacher talk for a few minutes consecutively. The project could be completed without the use of
technology, but it would be less engaging and less interesting to the students.
Inspiration (optional):

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their students.
The teacher should make sure that the content presented to the class is age appropriate and is benefiting the
students. The teacher must adhere to all of the common internet safety/Acceptable Use Policies.

Reflective Practice: This lesson idea could impact students learning by allowing students to complete this

project at home, and by giving them a good foundation before completing their group posters. This lesson not
only adheres to the state standards, but it also is a current event that the students should be educated on.
This lesson idea can be practiced at home when students try to contribute less to pollution in their everyday
lives.
