Prepare - LP #3: Bee, Bee, Bumble Bee

MU:Cr3.2.1a: With limited guidance, convey expressive intent for a specific purpose by
presenting a final version of personal musical ideas to peers or informal audience.

Materials of Instruction:
Bumble bee notation and poem, hand drum, play outside if possible.

Lesson Sequence:
A. Welcome
B. Introduce Poem
C. Historical Context
D. Guided listening
E. Teach Poem by rote
F. Assess and develop independency
G. Teach game (similar to eeny meeny miny moe)

Entry Activity/Transition: Today we are going to go outside and play a new game! But to go
outside we have to be on our very best behavior. Can you guys be my leaders and model good
behavior?

Activity #1 Objective: Students will play bumble bee activity and be able to recite the poem
with no more than one mistake.
1. T will lead students outside or clear space in the room or take students to the gym.
2. S will sit in a circle and begin to learn the poem with teacher.
3. T will have students pat steady beat on their legs while reciting whole song. During this
time the T will be keeping a steady beat on the hand drum.
4. “Bee bee bumble bee, stung a man upon his knee, stung a pig upon his snout, I declare
that you are out!”
5. “Ok what was my poem about?” S will answer a bee or pig or getting stung.
6. “What happened at the end of my song?” S will answer “the person got out”.
7. Fill in the blank sequence:
Bee Bee Bumble ______(Bee)
Stung a man upon his
______(knee)
Stung a pig upon his ________(snout)
I declare that you are
_______(out)
8. Then have students echo each phrase after you
9. Students recite whole song
10. 10. Students will play (Eeny Meeny Miny Moe) to lyrics of the bumble bee song

Assessment: Students will recite the whole song with no mistakes. If student is struggling to
sing poem and walk around the circle have the whole class chant during the game. If they need
a challenge have them do it on their own.

Transition/Closure: What a fun day, we will have plenty of more opportunities for games like
that as we move on.
