Entry Activity/Transition: Welcome class. Today I need you all to help me make a very
important decision. But first we have to learn a new song. Do you guys think we can learn this
song so you can help me make a very important decision?

Activity #1 Objective:
1. Welcome class and share introduction.
2. Share the whole poem.
3. Engaged listening, students will stand and shift from right to left with the T as they hear the
whole poem again.
4. As S continue to sway on their feet, T will have them echo their singing.
T - So So Mi, So So
Mi
S - So So Mi, So So Mi
Repeat as necessary
T - So So La La So So Mi
S - So So La La So
So Mi
Break the solfege down into smaller chunks if necessary.
5. When the students are comfortable, replace the solfege with the words of the song.
6. Students will then add body percussion by stomping with their left and right feet on the
eight notes and clapping on the quarter notes.
7. This process will be modeled and echoed by the instructor. The notation will be projected on
the board but the teacher will not refer to it at all during the class period.
8. Assess and refine as necessary.

Assessment: The goal here is not that the students are executing everything perfectly but that
they are experiencing movement and are being presented with the eighth note concept in a
natural manner.
Transition/Closure: Great work today class.
