Air-cooled machines have a solenoid valve (53), sometimes referred to as the
"X" valve, in the compressor discharge line, and a check valve (101) in the
liquid return line to the receiver. These valves prevent the migration of
refrigerant to the condenser when the machine is not operating.
Freeze Period. The Tube-Ice® is frozen inside the stainless steel tubes in the
freezer (2) by the direct application of refrigerant to the shell side (outside)
of the tubes. The ice is produced from constantly recirculating water during
the freeze period. As the ice thickness increases, the freezer suction pressure
decreases. At a set pressure, the freezer pressure switch initiates the harvest
period.
