Jackie Robinson

Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919, in

Cairo, Georgia. The youngest of five children, Robinson was

raised in relative poverty by a single mother. He lived in a

time in which colored people were discriminated, him being

one of them. He was the first black athlete to play Major

League Baseball in the 20th century. He Joined the Brooklyn

Dodgers in 1947.

Soon enough he became one of the best players in the

league. He was named Rookie of the year when he joined the


Dodgers. Later he was named National League MVP in 1949

and a World Series Champ in 1955. He was one of the best base

runners, he stole home nineteen times in his career, breaking a

league record.

Once he met and married his wife, they faced a lot of

racism from insults to death threats due to the success in his

career in the major leagues. This lead up to them being part of

the Civil Right Movement.


Jackie Robinson is up in the hall of fame and will always

be remembered to be a true stand in history. We know that we

must follow in his steps and make a stand for what we believe

in. Never give up on your dreams no matter what.
