FIRE PUMP DIESEL ENGINE FUEL TANK SIZING CALCULATION

As per NFPA 20:

11.4.3* Fuel Tank Capacity.

11.4.3.1* Fuel supply tank(s) shall have a capacity at

least equal to 1 gal per hp(5.07 L per kW), plus 5 percent
volume for expansion and 5 percent volume for sump.

A.11.4.3 The quantity 1 gal per hp (5.07 L per kW) is

equivalent to 1 pint per hp (0.634 L per kW) per hour for 8
hours.

JU6H-UF34 Engine Power rating – 175 BHP, 3000 RPM

Hence Fuel tank size required = 175 X (1 + 0.05 + 0.05) = 192.5 GALLONS

Therefore the proposed fuel tank size (200 GALLONS) is sufficient as per
NFPA 20 requirements.
