Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate
his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners,
families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each
learner.
Observation reflections

This group of artifacts are a fifteen-page paper reflecting on my observations at Terre

Town Elementary School, I made in EDUC 101 in March 2013, and a set of PowerPoint

reflections I made in the spring of 2018 at Dixie Bee Elementary School, for my ECED 250

class. They make up a total of forty hours of observations in a fourth and a fifth-grade classroom.

The fifteen-page paper details everything, I did and what I saw. I state what the building

looked like, the classroom, and an interview the teacher. I then talk about, what I saw in the

classroom that day. I went to this class for three days in March 2013. I go into detail on

everything I witnessed during the three days. I even include the classes assignments and

homework the students get.

For the PowerPoint reflections, I took photographs of the classroom and the assignments

I witnessed the class doing, I wrote down the demographics of the classroom, I took a couple of

photographs of the Tuesday folders I spent most of my time in the classroom doing, while I

observed. I did a reflection on the demographics of the classroom, a reflection on how the

classroom is managed, and a reflection on how behavior is managed in the classroom. I spent

two and a half hours for eight Tuesdays in this classroom. I got to see a lot more curriculum get

covered, and I got a better chance to get to know the students in my placement classroom.

I picked this set of artifacts for this standard because they show my ongoing professional

learning. It shows that I have been developing as a teacher since 2013. A future goal would be to

observe in other elementary grades, since I do not know what grade in elementary I would want

to teach.
