Lecturer Name: Seán Breen
Date: 4 Sessions February/March 2018
Duration of Lesson: 1 Hour

1. AIMS

The main aims of this lesson are to:

• Higher level thinking leading to analysis and evaluating of empirical date
• To investigate and gather evidence of the mechanical properties of manufactured board,
chipboard, MDF, Plywood and Valchromat, in a laboratory environment.
• Develop and appreciation for the ability of groups (social interdependence) to gather
valid information to inform further scholarly discourse.
• To compare as a group the stability of the four board types in high moisture conditions.
• Investigate the machining capabilities of said materials and interpret observations to be
shared with the wider class group

2. MAIN LEARNING OUTCOME & CORRESPONDING ASSESSMENT
