PHYSICS 1102
Purpose
To prove that charges can be transferred from one
object to the another according to the
electrostatistic law that happens in our real life. In
addition, we want to know how the pipe makes the
plastic bag float in the air.

Materials
Methods
Cut the plastic bag in a shape
Rub the plastic bag with our hair
Then rub the pipe with our hair.
Throw the plastic sheet into the air.
Control the floating sheet with the pipe.

Experiment
Analysis
This is able to work because of the static
electricity. Atoms are made out of three different
parts which are protons, neutrons and electrons.
Protons have a positive charge. Neutrons have
the same amount of positive and negative charge.
Electrons have a negative charge. When we rub
things together, we can rub off some of the
electrons and this will make it a negative charge.
If we have two objects with opposite charges, they
will attract each other(SAME CHARGES REPEL,
LIKE CHARGES ATTRACT). In the other hand, if
their charges are similar, they will repel each
other. Same goes with the pipe and the plastic
bag. When we rub the pipe and the bag with our
hair, some the electrons are transferred from our
hair to the pipe and the bag. this gives it the pipe
and the bag a negative charge. Therefore, they
push each other while we drop the bag on the top
of the pipe and this makes the bag float since they
both have a negative charge.
