Medical Laboratory Technician

Education and/or Training Required-

-Strayer University offers a training

- bachelor's degree in medical technology or life sciences

- often complete an associate’s degree program in clinical laboratory science

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Some states require laboratory personnel to be licensed

-Strayer has an average tuition of $12,975

Responsibilities and Daily Activities-

- Analyze body fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples, and record normal or abnormal findings
-Study blood samples for use in transfusions by identifying the number of cells, the cell morphology or
the blood group, blood type, and compatibility with other blood types

-Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and cell counters-Use automated
equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing several tests at the same time

-Log data from medical tests and enter results into a patient’s medical record

-Discuss results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians

-Supervise or train medical laboratory technicians

- Median pay is; $50,930 per year, $24.48 per hour

Self-Reflection-

I think that this job has some cool aspects, however I don’t think I would want to pursue a
career in this field of work. I don’t think that I could had looking at blood/urine samples as much as they
do and I wouldn’t want the responsibility of using specialized equipment with a patient.
