Explanation
The full budgeted amount that was given as a manager was 11,070,400 to spend on the

salary of players. For both position players and pitchers, regression analysis was adopted and done

on selected statistics of the players. The characteristics that are selected for pitchers are earned run

average (this is the average runs by a pitcher per nine pitched innings, wins (the total games that

the pitcher gets credit for as a win), losses (the total games that the pitcher is credited for as a loss)

and strikeouts (the total players that have been stricken out by the pitcher). For the position players,

the statistic that is selected hits (total doubles, singles, triples and earned home runs by the position

player.home runs (total balls that have been hit out of the field by the player). Average batting and

runs batted.

To work out the salary for pitchers is based on the selected career statistic of the player for

the previous year. For each player, we multiplied all the estimated parameters by the associated
selected statistic and got the In(salary) in estimation. To work out the salary for position players,

the salary was still based on the selected statistics of the players for the previous year. In the

regression analysis, the natural logarithm of the salary is the dependent variable for adjusting

unequal variances and holding selected career statistics constant. The salary is therefore obtained

from multiplying parameters of regression by selected career statistics and the results added

together.
