My name is Jennifer Bermudez Casarez.

I am a senior student at Glencoe High School,

planning to attend a 2 year community college and later transferring to OHSU to complete a
bachelor's degree in nursing. My educational aspirations consists of obtaining a bachelor’s
degree in nursing through an untraditional route. I aspire to be a registered nurse and work in the
labor and delivery unit or to become a midwife. On the other hand, my career goal is to help
underprivileged mothers in communities. I am certain that completing a career in nursing will
help me accomplish my goals.
I decided to accomplish a career in nursing because of the many influences I had while
attending Doernbechers hospital. I grew interest in helping and assisting others improve their
quality in life. Therefore, I believe that pursuing a nursing career will give me the opportunity to
help improve my community’s health quality and conditions. After, achieving my goal to
become a registered I also plan to assist medical needs abroad and help other communities
improve their life quality.
Furthermore, I want to contribute my knowledge to underserved communities nationally,
not just in the U.S. I want to expand my knowledge and help others improve their medical needs.
I also plan to use my bilingual skills in order to reach out to communities without a language
barrier. My desire to be a nurse has grown passionaly over the years as I began to take classes
such as anatomy, and my health sciences focus program. I started to strengthen my medical
terminology though my focus program, and aspired more accomplishments such as obtaining a
OSHA, CPR and Aid certifications.
I believe i deserve to be selected for this scholarship because as a diligent student I
commit myself to effectively taking advantage of the opportunities provided to me. Besides, I
have proven to be an active student and community volunteer such as mentoring and tutoring. I
am persistent, focus,considerate, thoughtful and motivated to pursue my career goal. With
economic assistance I believe I can achieve my goal by furthering my educational goals.
