IT’S YOUR TURN!

Goals:
 Define the word “satire” and other related terms.
 Identify how different satirical techniques can be used to create a message.
 Use your knowledge of satirical terms to share a message about a real event, idea, person,
etc.
 Create a presentation that shows the meaning of one of the vocabulary term.
Essential Questions:
 What is satire?
 How is a satirical work created?
 How do we identify the message of a satirical work?
 How do we identify the methods used to create a satirical message?
Instructions:
1. Split up into groups of four.
2. Choose a vocabulary word to create your own example for. Your options include:
o Exaggeration
o Understatement
o Juxtaposition
o Irony
Each group should choose a different word.
3. Choose a topic you want to create a satirical message about. If you and your group are
having trouble coming up with a topic, here are some ideas:
o Climate Change
o Politics
o Celebrities
o Movies
o Video Games
o Music
o Fashion
You may also choose to work with any of the ideas mentioned during the presentation.
4. Choose a form of presentation. You may want to share your message by creating a:
o Skit
o Cartoon
o Newspaper Article
You are not limited to these options.
5. Present your group’s work to the class.
6. Take notes on the other student’s work in order to better understand how each technique can
be used.
