Buccaneers @ Panthers
A surprisingly stable performance by the Bucs and a miserable perform-
ance that ended in a benching of the Panther‟s Matt Moore led to Tampa
Bay‟s first 2-0 start in five years. Bucs QB Josh Freeman threw for 178 yds ,
2 TD and no picks, with his TD passes to Graham and Williams. Moore
completed only 6 of his 16 passes, for 1 INT, and a TD pass to Steve Smith,
the only consistent receiver in the Carolina lineup. Moore was booed re-
peatedly and the crowd cheered for Jimmy Clausen when he stepped onto
the field as Moores replacement in the 4th QTR. Clausen completed 7 of
13 with 1 INT. It is still up in the air as to which of the CAR QB‟s will start
next week.
Dolphins @ Vikings
Brett Favre and the Viking miss Sydney Rice. A sloppy performance by the of-
fense, 3 INTs for Favre and a end zone fumble that was recovered for a MIA TD,
overshadowed a mild performance by the Dolphins. The incredible Fin‟s Defense
was able to hold Adrian Petersen and the Vikings to the line of scrimmage when it
counted, but AP still rushed for 145 yard with a 1 yd TD. Chad Henne was 9/15 for
114 yds and threw a TD pas to Brian Hartline, jumping on the scoreboard early in
the 1st half. Brandon Marshall was consistent with 4 receptions and 71 yds, and
Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown mixed it up with the Wildcat for 4 plays. The
Fins are 2-0 on the road, and the Vikings are nursing their wounds at 0-2. It was
Brett Favre‟s interceptions that could be blamed for the end result of the game.
Steelers @ Titans
.The Steelers forced a lot of turnovers for the Tennessee Titans, and capitalized on
four of them with FGs, helping them to a still difficult win in Nashville. Titans QB
Vince Young threw 3 INT and his team fumbled 4 times, the most turnovers by
Tennessee in ten years. Titans defense held the Steelers to a stand still though,
sacking PIT QBs Dixon and Batch. Dixon left the game with a knee injury early in
the game. It is still undecided who will start next week at QB for the Steelers, but
it wont be Ben Roethlisberger until Week 5.
Bills @ Packers
The Bills offense is weak this year, to say the least, and did not show a single sing
of improvement this week against the Green Bay Packers. Trent Edwards was
sacked three times, and their 186 yds of forward motion was capped by a rush-
ing TD by Fred Jackson in the 2nd. Aaron Rodgers and Packers dominated with
Rodgers throwing for 255 yds, two TD passes, and a scramble to the end zone of
his own late in the 3rd. Two early FG‟s by GB‟s Mason Crosby and a 1yd TD run
by Brandon Jackson sealed the deal for the Titans in the 1st QTR.
Eagles @ Lions
Its hard to say that anyone should be proud of Mike Vick, but he was back in his Pro-Bowl
form as the starter QB for the Eagles in Detroit. Vick threw for 284 yds and 2 TDs, and
danced out of the hands of the Detroit defense several times. Jahvid Best was the highlight
of the Lions game, with the rookie catching nine passes for 154 yds, scoring once, and run-
ning 17 times for two TDs and 78 yards. Most Lions fans had left the field before their at-
tempt at a comeback in the end of the 4th, but it wasn't enough to top the Eagles, who are
now 1-1. The Lions have won six games in the last three years, and are now playing without
their franchise player, QB Matt Stafford, who was injured last week.
Bears @ Cowboys
Jay Cutler looked like a QB against the Cowboys. After a few suggestions from Offensive
Coordinator Mike Martz, Cutler was 21 of 29, with NO picks, and 3 TDs, had great timing,
and was a major factor in the Bears victory over the „Boys. He connected with Olsen, Hes-
ter, and Forte, and Jay Gould kicked it for 2 FG.
Tony Romo had to admit that the Cowboys are in a rough spot, mistakes were frequent,
and his frustration was visible by the end of the game, as the running game was non-
existent for Dallas after the 1st. The highlight of their game came from rookie Dex Bryant
who returned a punt for a 62 yd TD, and from Romo connecting once with Gronkowski for
a 1yd TD. David Beulher booted it through the uprights for 2 FGs.
Chiefs @ Browns
The Chiefs are 2-0 for the first time since 2005. Last season, Kansas City didn't get its sec-
ond win until Nov. 15. They scored early, and kept scoring, 3 FGs by Ryan Succop, and an
interception turned into a TD by Brandon Flowers. KC QB Matt Cassel spoke of the confi-
dence that he sees in his team now with two early wins under their belts.
Seneca Wallace played for the injured Jake Delhomme, and finished 16 of 31, with Flowers
pick turned TD marring his record. A risky decision to go for it by the Chiefs with seconds
left in the 4th QTR paid off, giving the Chiefs another W.
Giants @ Colts:
Its going to be an awkward Thanksgiving at the House of Manning this year. Eli and the Giants were absolutely stomped by his big brother Peyton and the Colts. Peyton was in his
usual form, 20/26 and connecting for 3 TDs. Eli‟s performance was questionable, with two QB fumbles, and the Colts pass rush very obviously made him nervous. He was sacked 4
times and intercepted once.

Ravens @ Bengals
Mike Nugent saved the day for the Bengals with 5 FGs. The Ravens de-
fense was at its best, but it wasn't enough to stop the “little kicker who
could” who returned to the NFL this year after being let go by the Bucs
in 08. Ravens QB Joe Flacco had one of his worst games ever, with 4
picks, and only 1 TD pass, headlining a less than stellar offense. The Ra-
vens defense was tripped up by two calls that protected Bengals QB Car-
son Palmer. The Bengals, even with the addition of TO and Ocho, still
couldn't produce much in the way of offense , their victory was all in the
hands of the special teams. Nugent's FG were from 36, 30, 46, 38, and 25.
Cardinals @ Falcons
A long line of mistakes for the Cardinals was a major factor in the debacle
against the Falcons. Atlanta‟s win was headlined by 3rd string RB Jason Snelling,
who headed out to the field after injuries to RB Turner and Norwood took them
out of the game. Snelling rushed for 129 yds, caught 5 passes, carried 24 times,
and scored 3TDs, all totaling 186 yds. Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for 3 TDs as
well, 7yd pass to White, 12 yds to Finneran, and 19 yds to Snelling. The only
bright spot in the Cardinals play was an 80 yd TD by RB Tim Hightower, and
Larry Fitzgeralds 7 receptions for 83 yds. Derek Anderson threw for 161 yds
and 2 INT.
Texans @ Redskins
My upset game of the week. Donovan McNabb and the Skins thought they had
the game all tied up with a 20 point lead in the 3rd qtr, but a rousing rally by
Matt Schaub and the Texans late in the 3rd and all of the 4th QTR earned them a
2-0 start and their first win in OT. Both QBs threw for more than 400yds yds, a
franchise record for Schaub and the Texans, who while adding up the yards was
also very accurate, with 38/52 completions and 3 TDS. McNabb threw 1TD pass
and the Skins would've kept the victory if Graham Ganos 52 yd FG was not iced
by a timeout call from the Houston sidelines. His second attempt went wide
right, and the Texans kicked their winning FG on their next drive.
Jaguars @ Chargers
San Diego forced the Jacksonville Jaguars into six turnovers, and Philip Rivers
threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-13 victory. An embarrassing
performance by JAX QB Garrard with 4 INT, pretty much negated 2 FGs by Josh
Scobee and a TD with seconds to go from Garrard to Sims-Walker. The Charg-
ers scored 5 times and had 1 FG.
Patriots @ Jets
The Patriots would score twice in the 1st Qtr and then be stopped completely by
the Jets in New York‟s first victory this season. Bradys pass and the incredible TD
catch by Randy Moss, and a six yard pass to Wes Welker did nothing to stop the
Jets who looked more like the team that Rex Ryan said they would be. Mark San-
chez was in fine form, doubling his passer rating, throwing for 220 yds and was
21/30. He connected with Jericho Cotchery, Dustin Keller, and twice with Bray-
lon Edwards to double the Patriots score by the end of the game, as well as 2
FGs by Nick Folk.
Rams @ Raiders
Give Bruce Gradkowski the game ball for the Raiders win over the Rams. After replacing
Jason Campbell in the second half, Grad matched Sam Bradfords numbers easily, and
was 11/22 with 162 yds, 1 TD pass to Louis Murphy and 1 INT. Special teams on both sides
were less than spectacular, both kickers missing easy attempts. Sam Bradford scored
early in the 1st and late in the 4th, but after the boost given to the Raiders by Grad-
kowskis energy, there was nothing they could do to win.
Seahawks @ Broncos
The Broncos snapped a five-game losing streak that dated to end of last sea-
son. Matt Hasselbeck threw three interceptions in the game. Kyle Orton threw
for 307 yards, the fourth 300-yard passing game of his career. Broncos first-
round pick Demaryius Thomas had eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown
in his first career game. The 97 yards is the third highest by a Broncos wide re-
ceiver in his first career NFL game. They forced four turnovers and limited the
Seahawks to just 22:30 of possession time.

BIGGEST UPSET?
Houston Texans last minute OT win over the Washington Red-
skins.

BIGGEST HEARTACHE?
Redskins Kicker Graham Gano gets iced by Houston timeout,
and misses on his second FG attempt.

MOST DESERVED WIN?

Bruce Gradkowski and the Oakland Raiders coming from be-
hind to beat the St. Louis Rams 16-14 after Jason Campbell is
benched. I‟ll admit, even I was yelling “BRUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!”.

MOST UNDESERVED WIN?

Miami Dolphins over the Minnesota Vikings. It wasn't an offensive game for them at all, their strong but ragtag
defense just held the Vikings at bay. They can‟t keep that up if they expect to go 10-6.

MOST UNEXPECTED WIN?

The Chicago Bears beating the Dallas Cowboys. Jay Cutler got beat up every play, but kept it together, with
some very timely suggestions from the offensive coordinators. The Bears are 2-0 going into their rivalry game
next week against arch-enemy Green Bay, who is also 2-0.

WORST BLOW OUT?

Atlanta Falcons over the Arizona Cardinals. 44-7. Atlanta‟s offense dominated and absolutely destroyed anything
that the Cardinals put in their way. Atlanta crushed their way to 33-1st downs.

QB OF THE WEEK:
Mike Vick. And I hate saying that. He looked like the Pro-Bowler that he once was. I‟m wondering if Kevin Kolb
will start next week, as he is expected to return. I'm sure that Andy Reid has some serious thinking to do...

PLAYER OF THE WEEK?

Mike Nugent. The Bengals Kicker scored the only points against the Baltimore Ravens and his 5 FGs still won
them the game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:

Jahvid Best, rookie RB for the Lions, scored three times against the Philadelphia Eagles. I‟m pretty sure that he
will be in the “My Favorite Rookie” spot for a while...

MOST UNEXPECTED SUCCESS STORY:

3rd String RB Jason Snelling. After injuries to Jerious Norwood and Michael Turner he stepped up and delivered
for the Atlanta Falcons. Snelling rushed for 129 yards, caught 5 passes, carried 24 times, and scored three touch-
downs to power the Falcons to a 41-7 rout of the Arizona Cardinals. Just the man you want as your backup‟s
backup.

BEST PLAY OF THE WEEK:

Devin Hester‟s unbelievable one handed TD catch in the Bears over the Cowboys. If you missed it,,, please

BEST GAME BLUNDER:

NY Giant Brandon Jacobs is upset after being benched for Ahmad Bradshaw. He says he threw his helmet down
in frustration at the team bench, but somehow it landed about ten rows up in the stands. Colts fans refused to re-

What happens when your quarterback has a bad day? Nine times out of ten… you lose. That
seemed to be the story for 5 of 6 teams this week in the NFL.

I‟ll start with the most painful. Brett Favre does absolutely nothing halfway. When he wins, he
dominates. When he struggles, it‟s a debacle. Three interceptions and a fumble in the end zone
were the main reason that the Dolphins were able to beat the Vikings this week.

Vince Young tried his hardest, and you have to give him credit. His passes were caught, just by
the wrong team. With 2 critical interceptions against the Steelers, and Chris Johnson his only
target was made invisible, Young was benched. If I was Young, I would be worried about my
job.

Joe Flacco fell apart this week. It was a sad, sad thing to watch. After a few promising seasons
he is struggling to hold it together and this week was the worst I‟ve seen him. 4 interceptions
against the Bengals. His average pass completion was not even 4 yards.

Matt Moore‟s career with the Panthers is probably over. After a concussion last week and a less
than stellar performance this week, Jimmy Clausen will most likely start the rest of the year. I
think Moore is sad, but relieved.

David Garrard and the Jaguars...what can I say except at least you can spread the blame
around a little. His 4 interceptions weren't the only problem that the Jaguars had, but it was one
of the biggest. He was benched.

The only team that capitalized on their bad QB this week was the Raiders. Bruce Gradkowski
stepped in after Jason Campbell was ineffective in the first half. Led the Raiders to a win. There
is hope for the 2nd Stringers out there.

I look forward to the Bears and Green Bay in Week 3… somebody‟s gotta lose, not everyone
can be 3-0. The games oldest rivalry will be historic, even this early in the season. I‟m also
looking to see what the Dallas Cowboys will do next week against the Houston Texans. I‟m pre-
dicting an 0-3 for them and a 3-0 for the Texans. Sorry Lew, but at least one team in Texas is do-
ing well… maybe they should give the Texans that shiny new Superbowl stadium.
