Intern Teacher's Descriptive Reports
Ihave had a great experience during my PSIIl intemship and have leamed so much
about the teaching profession during my tima at Bluffton School. The staff was great in
welcoming mé to the school, and treating me like | was 2 colleague working beside them rather
than a student, This really tet me have a feel for the profession, and | am very thankful they
{rusted mo with the position I was given. | was placed in a grade % split classroom, where my
duties of teaching half time involved grade 3 math, % science, %4 social, and % phys ed. This
group consisted of 15 grade ds and 10 grade 3s, along side my teacher mentor, Mrs. Wanda
Monsks. Being such a small school | was able to get to know alll he slaff, and everyone was a
great mentor. | owe great thanks to everyone at Biutfton, especially Wanda fer everything |
have learned in my short time at Bluffton
| felt pretty comfortable leaching the courses | had in math. science, social and phys ed.
Having taught grade two math and science previously in PS| and majoring in physical education
the only new experiance in a subject teaching sense was social. Math being only 10 students |
took full advantage to try many new things as | realized a class this small may never happen
again, Here | gamified my class, using a varioty of strategies
like experience points a story line, leveling up, and quests to complete. My Professional Inquiry
Project was then based off of my experience of what I have learned in this class.
When it came to planning material for class | have found the long-range plan way more
beneficial than any unit plans and lesson plans. The long-range plan shows everything in more
of a time line and compares everything in one decument to see what is already done, is in
process, and where we are going next. In the future I now know a more efficient and better

.
method to planning based on what I like. We completed the grade 3 curriculum in bath science
and social. The two sciance units | covered was testing materials and designs as well as
building with a variety of materials. | loved this class because almost everything | did was
hands on learning, providing a great atmosphere and amazing ideas from students. based my
social studies units on a lot of collaboration in an attempt fo get students sharing ideas and
points of view for a better understanding of others lives. This was an excellent group of kids
and it is going to be hard to leave when practicum comes to an end.
| also participated, and found parent teacher interviews extremely informative when it came to
my planning for differentiating instruction. Parents are a great resource lo get additional
information, which the students are goad at hiding when they get to school. | noticed there are
definitely benefits for bath students being present, and having one on one time with the parents
during the interviews. Preparing the report cards took a lot of time even though | only had half
the teaching load. Wanda was a great example of how to put together documents for the
parents, very informative.
Additionally, during my practicum | got involved in extracurricular events through the
school and the broader community. Getting involved in afterschool programs was a big goal of
mine, as it was very significant during my lime as a student. My Involvement in extracurricular
activities included judging a 4H public speaking event which many students from Bluffton and
surrounding communities were part of. Being an athlete for the majority of my yoars in school, |
also gol lo coach a few sports teams. | was given the opportunity to assist in coaching our
boys’ basketball team with Mr. Terry Hoganson, the principle, as well as assist Mrs. Lisa Shukin
our junior high English and PE teacher coaching Badminton.
During our basketball season we had a strong team but fell just short of the
championship game in the final tournament. | had a great time and felt everyone on the team
‘showed great improvement during the season and enjoyed playing. | will continue to assist with
badminton even after my practicum finishes, and have also been asked fo coach a spring
basketball team in the community that runs through May and into June. This is the community 1
grew up in and it is heartwarming to be asked by othors to coach when | have retumed after my
time in Lethbridge.
Just before my practicum is to end, | have volunteered to take @ group of students to
youth tech nation, where we will leam from other students in the district about various types of
technology to bring back and share with the school, | am very excited to leam more about this
area as | feel itis a great medium thraugh which students cam learn and develop their abilities,
for later life skills.
To conclude, teaching in Blulfion has been a great experience and the community and
staff made me feel at home during these last four months, The experience of learning more
about the inner workings of the teaching profession has Deen conveyed much clearer than |
have previously known. This experience was very beneficial in preparing me for the future as a
full ime leacher: | am ready to begin my career.

It has been my pleasures well as the benefit of both students and myself to have had Me. Cody

During the four month internship, Mr. Rudnik taught grade three mathematics and combined

In planning and preparation, Cody was clearly knowledgeable in the subject arews and willing to

manipulatives and then moving onto pictorial and finally symbolic understanding, Cody
integrated a variety of student groupings during his lessons, which supported our classroom
emphasis on cooperative leaming, He used whole class, small groups, partners and individual
practice opportunities appropriately. When Cody asked questions to bridge previous learning or
to encourage higher level thinking and review content, classroom discussions were lively and
engaging, Students were cager to share their ideas. Cody also integrated a variety of assessment
techniques such as presentations, hands-on projects, questioning and written assignments. Not
only did Cody efficiently maintain student achievement records using our school’s online
portfolio, but he was also very helpful in guiding other staff members as we were lexminy this
new method of reporting.
When il comes to classroom leadership, I observed Cody as confident, composed and
