Important: A responder may choose more than one adjective.

The result

The observation has 11 responders who have already experienced in talking with people
who came from Palembang and used Javanese language as medium of communication.
Fortunately, they choose more than one adjective which are provided in the questionnaire. There
is no one choose “polite” for this case, but it is not for about adjective “cool”. There are 4
responders who choose this adjective. Most of responders who choose this adjective argue that
when people who came from Palembang communicate using Javanese language, they look cool
because they may amaze that most of Palembang people which are rich and educated speak
Javanese language which identically old fashion (katrok). Moreover, the adjective that is chosen
most is funny. As we know, it is just not only for Palembang people. It happens for all of people
which their mother tongue is not Javanese. For example, when Palembang people study about
number in Java, they would be difficult to imitate. Therefore, it will become entertainment for
other people.

The second rate is for adjective “strange”. There are six responders who choose this
adjective. The common reason is they are sounded strange when speaking Javanese language
because they have their own language. On the other hand, there is no one to choose the adjective
“slovenly”. The next adjective is rugged. There are 4 responders choose this adjective. According
to them, it happened because people who are from Palembang ruggedly. However, it is brought
for any languages they speak.

In addition, there is one responder who choose adjective “aggressive” and “impolite”. The
responder of aggressive argued that she has ever experienced when she talked with Palembang
people, she felt fear. She said that she felt everything was wrong when she was speaking with
Palembang people. In other word, responder who chooses the adjective “impolite” connected this
to the adjective “rugged”. For the last two adjective, firstly is “songong” (ignoring a custom)
which is quite same with the adjective arrogant. The responder comments that although
Palembang people cannot speak Javanese well, they are still arrogant in speaking Javanese. It
makes other people don’t respect anymore. The last is “medok” which means the Palembang
people still keep their dialect although they speak Javanese Language. There are two responders
who choose this adjective.

In conclusion, people certainly have different opinion about that. However, I can conclude
that most of 11 people who become my responders argued in negative rather than in positive
side.
