Upthrust
In physics, buoyancy or upthrust, is an upward force exerted by a fluid that opposes the weight of an
immersed object. In a column of fluid, pressure increases with depth as a result of the weight of the
overlying fluid.

This was first discovered and proposed by Archimedes in the

famous bath analogy “Eureka” , In which he supposedly
proclaimed after stepping into a bath and seeing the water rise.

He spontaneously realized that the volume of the water was being

displaced and that volume must be of an equivalent to that of his
submerged body.

This is scientifically known as the Archimedes’ principle.
