Graphing Data – Day & date: Tuesday 7-11-17 Session: 9:50 – 10:35

Curriculum area Maths – Create displays of data using lists, table and picture graphs and
interpret them (ACMSP050)

Objectives By the end of this lesson students will:


 Graphed the data showing how many of each coloured MnM they have
 Have graphs with correct element – title, axis, data representation
Overall duration (time) 45 minutes

Prior knowledge  Students learned about different graphs


 Students graphed 10 different coloured blocks

Materials & Resources  MnMs, Worksheet

Introduction Students on the mat

 What do we know about graphing data? Different types of graphs?


 Show examples of bar graph from the blocks
 Explain – going to be given a collection of coloured materials, and you will
create a graph showing the different amounts
 Students to go back to desks with suppliers hand out worksheets (5 minutes)

Body Students back at their desks

 Go through worksheet – Discussion about what we must include in our graphs


– title, name of the colours along the bottom, numbers going up the side,
displaying your data and how many of each colour.
 Explain that students will be given packets of MnMs to sort out and graph
how many of each colour they have – NO EATING until graphs are correct and
checked by teachers
 Students to begin their graphs and answering the questions (30 minutes)

Conclusion Discuss and show different ways students have presented their data

Notes - Ensure Stephen and Jacob are sitting away from each other on the mat
- Early finishers to complete their unfinished work from previous week
- Award Class Dojos
- Throughout lesson, teacher to check students’ progress by walking around
reading work and having students read out what they have written

Assessment of student Formative Assessment – throughout lesson, teacher will be walking around checking
learning students progress
