Honors Sociology: Summer Homework 

Welcome to Honors Sociology! This discipline is interesting and insightful (and obviously 
one of Ms. Kosinski’s personal favorites), yet many high school students have never heard 
of it and cannot name a single sociologist. Please complete the following tasks during the 
weeks of summer vacation, and let me know if you have any questions. 
 
● First, read different definitions and descriptions of “sociology.” Then ​define 
“sociology” in your own words​. 
 
● While we will examine and discuss numerous individuals,​ Karl Marx​,​ Émile 
Durkheim​, and M​ ax Weber​ will be of particular significance. ​For each of these 
sociological figures,​ ​list at least 6 notable facts ​about their respective theories, 
accomplishments, and contributions to sociology. (18 facts minimum; bullet points 
are OK.) 
○ Include an APA “References” page; use BibMe to cite your​ reputable 
sources.
