APPLICATION OF ELECTROSTATICS:

Agricultural spraying: the nozzle of the spray is connected to a high voltage supply which charges the
droplets positively and induces a negative charge on the earth and the leaves. The attraction causes the
spray to be distributed on both sides of the leaves.

Dust extraction: the dust particles passes through a negatively charged metal grid, hence becoming
negatively charged. The dust is then attracted to the positively charged cylinders inside the wall. The
cylinders are knocked to collect the dust particles and the filtered air exits at the top.

Photocopiers: the light sensitive drum is positively charged. The image on the paper copied is projected
onto the drum. The areas on the drum exposed to light and loses its positive charge. The negatively
charged toner is dusted over the drum which is attracted to the positively charged image. A sheet of
paper then becomes positively charged as it passes over the grid. The paper is attracted to the toner on
the drum and forms the image on the paper then warmed for permanent product.
