Flow chart
1. Preparation isomer Trans potassium bisoxalato diaquo chromate (III)

3 grams of oxalic acid dehydrate

- Dissolved with 1 drop of boiling distilled

water into beaker glass
- Added drop by drop 1 gram of potassium
dichromate that dissolved with 1 drop of
hot distilled water
- Closed the beaker glass with petri dish
- Evaporated it in water bath until the
volume is a half
- Allowed evaporated by itself at room
temperature until 1/3 volume
- Filtered it

Residue (Crystal) Filtrate

- Washed with 5 mL of distillate

water than 5 mL of ethanol
- Dried it in oven (40℃)

Result

- Calculated the rendemen

- Observed the color
- Determined the melting point
- Analyzed with UV-VIS

Result

Reaction:
7H2C2O4.2H2O(aq) + K2Cr2O7(aq) → 2K[Cr(C2O4)2(H2O)2] (s) +
6CO2 (g) + 7H2O(ℓ)
2. Preparation isomer Cis potassium dioxalato diaquo chromate (III)

1 gram of potassium dichromate + 3 grams of oxalic

acid dehydrate

- Inserted into beaker glass

- Added 1 drop of hot distilled water

Produce H2O and CO2 gas

- Keep it (don’t become solution)

Mixture of pasta

- Added 5 mL of ethanol
- Stir until produce precipitate
- Decanted it
- Added 5 mL of ethanol again
- Filtered it

Residue Filtrate

- Washed with 5 mL of distillate

water than 5 mL of ethanol
- Dried it in oven (40℃)

Result

- Calculated the rendemen

- Observed the color
- Determined the melting point
- Analyzed with UV-VIS

Result

Reaction:
7H2C2O4.2H2O(aq) + K2Cr2O7(aq) → 2K[Cr(C2O4)2(H2O)2] (s) +
6CO2 (g) + 7H2O(ℓ)
3. Isomer purity test

Crystal Isomer Cis and Trans

- Placed on filter paper

- Dropped with ammonium hydroxide solution

A dark green color rapidly A light brown solid which is

spreading on the filter insoluble (Trans)
paper (Cis)

Reaction:
2K[Cr(C2O4)2(H2O)2](s)+ 2NH4OH(aq) → 2K[Cr(NH3)2(H2O)2](s) +
H2C2O4(aq) + H2O(ℓ)
