GENERAL INFORMATION ON UWC

Greetings,

Thank you for your interest in UWC (United World Colleges). Our mission is to make education as a
force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

With currently 16 schools in 16 countries, our program provides a 2-year education (equivalent to
Grade 11 & 12) using International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program as its curriculum.

Indonesian students who wish to study at UWC schools must apply through the country's UWC
National Committee (NC), which is a group of professionals, UWC alumni, parents, and volunteers.

Applicants and parents must be aware that offers to Indonesian students to UWC schools may vary
each year. Offers may include scholarship, partial scholarship or no scholarship. UWC selection is a
merit-based process. Financial assistance (partial or full) may be granted to an applicant based on
the parents' financial capability and offers from the UWC schools.

Salam hangat,

Terima kasih untuk minat Anda pada UWC (United World College). Misi kami adalah
mengedepankan pendidikan sebagai sarana untuk mempersatukan orang - orang dari berbagai
bangsa dan budaya untuk mencapai masa depan yang cerah dan berkesinambungan.

Di 16 kampus yang tersebar di 16 negara, kami menyediakan program belajar selama 2 tahun
menggunakan kurikulum IB Diploma (setara kelas 11 dan 12).

Siswa-siswa Indonesia yang tertarik untuk melanjutkan pendidikan di kampus-kampus UWC harus
mendaftar melalui UWC Nationl Committee (NC) di Indonesia, yang terdiri dari pakar-pakar, alumni,
orang tua murid, dan relawan.

Calon siswa dan orang tua murid diharap maklum untuk perbedaan kuota dan tawaran untuk
kampus-kampus UWC yang berbeda setiap tahun. Tawaran yang tersedia dapat termasuk beasiswa,
beasiswa tidak penuh, dan tidak berbeasiswa. Seleksi UWC adalah berdasarkan kemampuan dan
keunggulan siswa. Bantuan keuangan (sebagian atau penuh) dapat diberikan ke calon siswa
berdasarkan kemampuan keuangan orang tua murid dan tawaran dari berbagai kampus UWC.

ELIGIBILITY (2016-2017)

In order to apply, an applicant MUST meet the following criteria:

1. Indonesian citizen.
Applicant holding dual citizenship may apply as long as one of them is Indonesian, have a
firm understanding of Indonesian culture and able to represent Indonesia in UWC.

2. For 2017 Selection, applicant must be of age between 16-19 years old, minimum 16 per 01
June 2017.

3. Currently studying AT LEAST in:
a) Grade 10 for students who are taking Cambridge GCSE or O Level, or IB MYP, or
b) Grade 11 for students who are taking Indonesian National Curriculum (including National
Curriculum, 2013, KTSP)

4. Demonstrate good academic standing by having achieved a minimum of:
● 8.0 (out of 10)
● 4 ( out of 7, if using IB grade curriculum)
● 80 (out of 100)
● B (if using Grade letter)
● 3.33 (if using 0-4 grade point)

Persyaratan pendaftaran:
Sebelum mendaftar, calon siswa harus memenuhi kriteria berikut:

1. Terdaftar sebagai WNI (Warga Negara Indonesia). Siswa pelamar yang memiliki kebangsaan
ganda dapat mendaftar selama salah satu kewarganegaraan nya adalah Indonesia, memiliki
pemahaman yang kuat tentang budaya Indonesia dan dapat mewakili Indonesia di UWC.

2. Untuk pendaftaran tahun 2017, calon siswa harus berumur antara 16-19 tahun, harus
berusia minimum 16 tahun per 01 Juni 2017

3. Tengah menduduki MINIMAL:
a. Kelas 10, untuk pelajar yang bersekolah di SMA menggunakan kurikulum
Internasional (Cambridge IGCSE / O Level / GCSE atau IB MYP), atau
b. Kelas 11 dan atau 12 yang bersekolah SMA/ sederajat menggunakan kurikulum
Indonesia (termasuk kurikulum nasional, 2013, KTSP)

4. Memiliki nilai rata-rata akademis minimum
• 8.0 (dari 10,0) atau 80 (dari 100)
• 4 ( dari 7, jika menggunakan grade IB)
• B (jika menggunakan sistem letter grade )
• 3.33 (jika menggunakan grading 0-4)
dari hasil penilaian semester terbarunya.

SELECTION PROCESS

1. During the selection process, the student, the parent(s) / guardian(s) are not allowed to
contact any member of the UWC National Selection Committee. Failure to comply with this
regulation will result in the rejection of the student.

Selama proses seleksi, siswa, orang tua(s) /wali(s) tidak diperbolehkan untuk menghubungi
anggota Komite Seleksi Nasional UWC. Kegagalan untuk mematuhi ketentuan ini akan
mengakibatkan penolakan siswa.

2. Should the student or parent(s) / guardians have any questions about the colleges, the
scholarship program, or other things, please submit the questions to the UWC National
Selection Committee. Best by email.

Jika siswa atau orang tua(s) /wali memiliki pertanyaan tentangsekolah UWC, program
beasiswa, atau hal-hal lainnya, silahkan kirimkan pertanyaan kepada Panitia Seleksi
Nasional UWC. Cara terbaik adalah melalui email.

3. UWC National Selection Committee will announce the students who are successfully
selected to proceed to the next selection process to the Principal or teacher, who will in turn
inform the students. If the Principal or teacher is unavailable, student will be notified directly.

Komite Nasional akan mengumumkan siswa yang berhasil dipilih untuk melanjutkan ke
proses seleksi selanjut nya kepada KepalaSekolah, yang kemudian akan menginformasikan
siswa. Jika Principal atau guru tidak tersedia, siswa akan diberitahu secara langsung.

4. Successful candidates are nominated to specific UWC schools and colleges. The schools
and colleges generally accept the nominated candidates based on the selection result and
recommendation from each the national committee, but reserve the right to make the final
decision on every candidate.

Kandidat yang melewati proses seleksi akan dinominasikan untuk sekolah UWC tertentu.
Sekolah-sekolah UWC pada umumnya menerima calon yang diusulkan berdasarkan hasil
seleksi dan rekomendasi dari masing-masing komite nasional, namun berhak untuk
membuat keputusan akhir pada setiap calon.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Stage 1: Submitting a completed application forms. The application forms can be found in
http://uwcindonesia.org A detailed instruction will be included.
If Online Application is conducted, instruction will be provided on our website
www.uwcindonesia.org.


Tahap 1: Mengirimkan atau mengunggah aplikasi pendaftaran yang lengkap. Formulir aplikasi dapat
diunduh dari http://uwcindonesia.org. Cara pengisian dan langkah-langkah penting dapat
ditemukan di dalam website tersebut. Jika Aplikasi Online dilakukan, instruksi akan diberikan di
website kami

Stage 2: First stage & administrative screening. ONLY shortlisted applicants will be notified through
email and or text messages. At this stage, the shortlisted applicants may be required to submit more
documents.

Tahap 2: Tahap pertama dan pemindaian awal. HANYA calon-calon murid terpillih yang akan
dihubungi melalui email dan atau SMS. Pada tahap ini, calon murid terpilih dapat diminta untuk
melengkapi dokumen-dokumen tertentu


Stage 3: Students who have been filtered from second stage must attend activities, interviews, and
other assessments. Applicants MUST attend this process (cannot be done through Skype or
conference call).The third stage will be held in designated location in Jakarta.

Tahap 3: Calon-calon murid yang lolos Tahap 2 wajib mengikuti aktivitas, wawancara, dan tahapan
lainnya. Calon murid WAJIB mengikuti proses ini dan tidak dapat mengikuti melalui skype atau
conference call. Tahap 3 akan diadakan di Jakarta di lokasi yang sudah ditentukan.

More on application process:
Stage 3 will take two full days, usually on a weekend. Finalists must attend all procession. Please be
aware that the whole process might continue until Sunday night; therefore, you must plan your travel
accordingly after selection is done.

Travel cost is not provided, but travelling during selection (as part of selection activity) is covered.
Accommodation / rooms for students from outside Jakarta is negotiable, but availability is limited.

During the selection process, the student, the parent(s) / guardian(s) / teacher, are NOT ALLOWED to
contact any member of the UWC National Selection Committee. Failure to comply with this
regulation will result in the rejection of the student.

1. What is United World Colleges (UWC)?

2. What is the National Committee (NC)?
National committees are volunteer-run panels which:
• Promote UWC
• Select and prepare students for their UWC experience
• Often run short programmes.
Members include UWC alumni, education professionals and community leaders.
Some countries have a selection contact rather than a national committee. They are
responsible for selecting students from a particular country.
There are national committees in over 150 countries, so the majority of students can apply to
study at a UWC school or college through this system.

Apakah peran National Committee (NC)?
NC adalah sebuah panel relawan yang bertujuan untuk:
• mempromosikan UWC
• menyeleksi dan mempersiapkan siswa(i) untuk program UWC
• menyelenggarakan program atau kursus-kursus pendek apabila tersedia
Keanggotaan NC terdiri dari alumni UWC, pakar pendidikan, dan pemimpin komunitas.
Beberapa negara memiliki “selection contact” dan merekalah yang bertanggung jawab untuk
menyeleksi siswa(i) dari berbagai negara.
Saat ini telah ada 150 National Committee (NC) yang tersebar di 150 negara. Dengan adanya
NC, calon siswa dapat mendaftar ke kampus dan program UWC melalui NC di negara
masing-masing.

3. What is “Info Session”?
Info session is a sharing information session held by the National Committee. Applicants
can ask question directly to the members of the National Committee. Info Session is NOT
part of the selection.

Apakah yang dimaksud dengan “Info Session”?
Info session adalah sebuah ajang untuk berbagi informasi tentang UWC yang diadakan oleh
NC. Disana, calon siswa dapat berinteraksi secara langsung dengan anggota NC. Info
Session BUKANLAH bagian dari tahap seleksi.

4. If I am applying, MUST I attend this info session?
You DO NOT HAVE TO attend Info session. As applicants come from all over indonesia and or
live outside of Jakarta, you can always ask questions through email. All necessary
information is available in this booklet, also available online.

Jika saya mendaftar, haruskah saya menghadiri info session?
Calon pendaftar TIDAK diharuskan menghadiri info session. Kami sadar bahwa Anda berasal
dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia, maka Anda juga dapat bertanya melalui e-mail apabila
tidak bisa menghadiri info session. Semua informasi terkait pendaftaran juga tersedia dalam
booklet ini dan dapat diakses secara online.

5. Is there an application fee? If Yes, how much is it? Do we have to pay to join Info session?
There is no application fee, it is free. You also do not need to pay to join info session, unless
it is held in a café (for example) you will be responsible for your own drinks or food.

7. Where can I see the list of UWC schools offered every year?
Please understand that the list of schools offered might differ every year. The information
will be available on the application form.

The fees to attend UWC vary from one UWC school to another. You may check in detail on

No. As mentioned in previous number: UWC selection is a merit-based process. Financial
assistance (partial or full) may be granted to an applicant based on the parents' financial
capability and offers from the UWC schools.

12. What kind of accommodation that is provided in UWC schools? Do students have to find or
rent house or apartment for themselves?
Whether their scholarship condition is full, partial, or no scholarship, almost everything is
included at each school.
That includes :
• Boarding houses/halls,
• Room and its content (wardrobe/closet, bed, etc)
• Meals
• Books
Some UWC schools would require students to buy/rent a specific type of calculator (Texas
Instruments TI-83+ or TI-84+.)

Jenis akomodasi apa sajakah yang disediakan di sekolah UWC? Apakah siswa harus mencari
atau menyewa rumah atau apartemen untuk tempat tinggal mereka?
Dalam kondisi beasiswa yang penuh, parsial, atau tanpa beasiswa, hampir semua keperluan

2. Does UWC offer University programs?

No, UWC only offers two-year, pre-university program, equivalent to grade XI and XII.

Apakah UWC membuka program S1/Universitas?

Tidak, UWC hanya menawarkan program 2 tahun pre-universitas, setara dengan kelas XI dan
XII.

3. Do I have to return home after UWC and redo my high school years?
No, you do not have to. Students who graduate from UWC will receive an IB diploma which
can be used to continue their study at universities anywhere in the world.

Apakah ini program pertukaran pelajar, dan apakah saya harus kembali ke Indonesia untuk
mengulang pendidikan SMA?
Pelajar tidak harus kembali ke Indonesia sesudah lulus UWC. Lulusan sekolah UWC akan

universitas di seluruh dunia.

4. Can students continue their education (University) after UWC in Indonesia?

Yes, there is a diploma legalization process that students must do after obtaining their UWC
IB Diploma.

5. Can students continue their education (University) after UWC in other countries?
Yes, IB diploma can be used to continue their study at universities anywhere in the world.
UWC student will consult with University Counselor in their last year of UWC.

Dapatkah siswa melanjutkan pendidikan (Universitas) setelah UWC di negara lain?

Ya, IB diploma dapat digunakan untuk melanjutkan studi mereka di universitas mana saja di
dunia. Siswa UWC akan berkonsultasi dengan Penasihat Universitas (University Councelor)

6. What are the courses/classes in UWC schools?

The curriculum used in UWC schools is the International Baccalaureate (IB), please visit

Category: Eligibility & Requirement

1. Can Non-Indonesian citizen apply to UWC?
Students must contact the NC or Selection Contact of their country of citizenship. Only
Indonesian citizens are eligible to apply through Indonesian National Committee. If you are
holding dual citizenship, one of them must be Indonesian.

Apakah Warga Negara Asing (WNA) boleh mendaftar untuk UWC?

WNA (Warga Negara Asing) tidak mendaftar melalui Komite Nasional Indonesia. Siswa harus
menghubungi NC atau Selection Contact sesuai kewarganegaraan mereka. Calon siswa
dengan kewarganegaraan ganda boleh mendaftar asalkan salah satunya adalah Indonesia.

2. We are KTSP2006 and K13 students, may we apply?

Yes you may, as long as you are currently studying in grade XI or XII, AND you are 16 years
old or older since 01 June 2017.

Kami adalah siswa KTSP2006 dan Kurikulum2013. Apakah boleh mendaftar?

Boleh, asalkan Anda sedang duduk di kelas XI atau XII, DAN berusia 16 tahun ke atas
terhitung sejak 01 Juni 2017.

3. Do I have to be fluent in English to apply?

No, you don’t have to already master English language at the time of application. However,
basic to intermediate understanding of English will be helpful during selection and the first
months at UWC.

Apakah saya harus lancar berbahasa Inggris untuk mendaftar di UWC?

Tidak. Namun, kemampuan dasar yang cukup dalam berbahasa Inggris akan bermanfaat
saat proses seleksi dan di awal program UWC nantinya.

4. Are SMK/MAN/MA students eligible to apply?

Yes, as long as you are grade as long as you are currently studying in grade XI or XII, AND
you are 16 years old or older since June 2017.
Apakah siswa SMK/MAN/MA boleh mendaftar?
Ya, asalkan Anda sedang duduk di kelas XI atau XII, DAN berusia 16 tahun ke atas terhitung
sejak Juni 2017.

5. I am grade X. Can I apply?

You can ONLY if you are currently studying under international curriculum (Cambridge
GCSE/O Level/IB MYP) AND you are 16 years old or older since 01 June 2017 (or per year you
are applying UWC for).

8. According to the duration in General Timeline, can I apply even if I’m still below 16? I will be

Yes, you can apply even if during the selection process (from December to May-the next
year) you are still below 16 year old. But you must be 16 per 01 June 2017 (or the intake
application year)

bawah 16? Saya akan berusia 16 tahun pada 2 Juni 2017 nanti.
Ya, Anda dapat mendaftar UWC meski jika selama proses seleksi (dari Desember hingga

9. I have graduated from high school; can I still apply to UWC?
Unfortunately, no. UWC is open for current high school students only.

10. I applied last year, but was not selected. Can I apply for UWC again this year?
As long as you are still within the eligibility criteria (Age and Grade), yes you can apply.

tahun ini?

1. Are there any additional or specific forms to obtain scholarships?
No, there isn’t. Availability of scholarships is different every year, and NC will assess on this
matter after the student passes all selection process.

Apakah ada dokumen spesifik untuk mendapatkan beasiswa?
Tidak ada. Ketersediaan beasiswa berbeda setiap tahunnya, dan NC akan mengevaluasi
status beasiswa setelah siswa dinyatakan lulus semua proses seleksi.

2. Is it possible to choose the UWC School that I wish to enroll in?
You may indicate and rank your school preferences on the application form. However, the NC
has the right to make final placement decision according to your application and assessment
results.

Calon siswa dapat mencantumkan sekolah pilihannya pada formulir pendaftaran. Namun, NC

3. What are the steps in selection process?
Stage 1: Semi-online application available on our website (once registration is opened)
Stage 2: Assessment.
Stage 3: Interview.

Tahap 1: Pendaftaran semi-online yang dapat diakses di website (saat pendaftaran dibuka)
Tahap 2: Assessment.
Tahap 3: Wawancara.

4. Do I have to come to Jakarta to apply?
During Stage 1, students don’t need to come to Jakarta. You only need to apply through our
website.
Only for Stage 3,you have to be present in Jakarta at all selection days and time.

Apakah saya harus datang ke Jakarta untuk mendaftar?

Untuk Tahap 1, siswa tidak perlu datang ke Jakarta. Anda diharapkan mendaftar melalui
website kami.
Hanya di Tahap 3, siswa/i harus hadir di Jakarta pada hari dan waktu yang ditentukan untuk
seleksi.

5. Can I have someone else to proofread my essays for Stage 1?
NO, we would like to see you original work.

Bolehkah saya meminta bantuan orang lain untuk memeriksa esai saya di Tahap 1?
Tidak diperbolehkan. Kami ingin melihat hasil karya murni dari siswa.

6. Do I have to submit my TOEFL result?
TOEFL result is not mandatory, however you may submit the result if you have taken the test.

Apakah saya harus mengambil tes TOEFL?

TOEFL tidak diwajibkan, namun silakan melampirkan hasilnya jika Anda pernah
mengikutinya.

7. Do I have to already own many achievement certificates to apply?
No, you don’t have to, but you are welcomed to submit them.

8. When will the application be opened?
Stage 1 of the application process usually opens in late November or early December each
year. This year, for entry in 2017, application will open in early December 2016.

Kapan pendaftaran UWC dibuka?

Tahap 1 biasanya dibuka pada akhir November atau awal Desember tiap tahunnya. Tahun
ini, untuk tahun ajaran 2017/2018, pendaftaran akan dibuka di awal Desember 2016.

9. For grade 12 applying students, until which year of transcript report must be provided?
From the past three years until the report from the latest semester in grade 12,

Untuk siswa/i grade 12 (kelas 3 SMA) yang ingin mendaftar, transkrip rapor yang disediakan
harus hingga tahun berapa?
Dari tiga tahun akademik terakhir, hingga hasil semester terakhir yang diterima (di kelas 12).


10. Will applicants get a notification when passing the selection?
After submitting application for stage 1, if applicants do not hear from the national
committee by the early February (2017) that means they do not pass to the next selection
(stage 3).
If applicants are selected to stage 3, they will be notified by email, text messages, or phone
call.
For students who are already in the final, but was not elected, UWC NC will notify the
students directly and / or school.

Akankah pelamar mendapatkan notifikasi ketika melewati seleksi?
Setelah mengirimkan aplikasi untuk tahap 1, jika pelamar tidak mendengar dari komite
nasional hingga awal Februari (2017), berarti mereka tidak lolos ke seleksi berikutnya (tahap
3).
Jika pelamar dipilih untuk tahap 3, mereka akan diberitahu melalui email, pesan teks, atau
panggilan telepon.
Bagi para siswa yang sudah masuk final namun tidak terpilih, UWC NC akan melakukan
pemberitahuan langsung ke siswa yang bersangkutan dan/atau pihak sekolah.
