PLEASE NOTE:
If you are required to undertake a ‘Registration Bridging Program’, please be aware that current
availability of courses may be limited.
For existing NMBWA applicants who are overseas trained and/or out of practice and have pending’ or
‘subject to’ status who need to complete a ‘Registration Bridging Program’ or conversion, NMBWA has
extended the time period to achieve this, from two to three years.

Documentation Requirements
Complete application form NA4 “Application for Initial Registration as a Nurse and /or Midwife under
the Nurses and Midwives Act 2006”. Submit with an application fee (non refundable) and registration fee
(if eligible for registration).
Provide certified copies of documents required. Persons authorised to certify copies of original
documents are Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, a Barrister or Solicitor. The certifying officer must
include the following information on each certified copy:
“This is a true copy of the original which has been sighted by”:
· Signature of certifier
· Printed name of certifier
· State qualification of certifier, eg. Solicitor
· A contact address of certifier; and
· A contact phone number for certifier
Documents required are as follows:
· Birth certificate
· Passport
· Change of name documentation (if applicable)
· Transcript of nursing and/or midwifery education. (If you do not have your transcript, a copy
of your syllabus from the nursing or midwifery regulatory authority forwarded directly to
NMBWA will be accepted).
· Initial registration certificate(s)
· Current practicing certificate or endorsement or authority to practise
· Statement of service on letterhead paper from the most recent employer.
You will also need to request from the nursing and/or midwifery regulatory authority, with whom you
are registered overseas, to send the following directly to the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western
Australia:
· Verification of your initial registration (state & country in which you completed your nursing
and/or midwifery education)
· Verification of current registration (state & country in which you were last employed as a
nurse / midwife)
Applicants who have completed an education program leading to registration / license / eligibility as a
nurse in one of the following countries may waiver the Registration Bridging Program:
· United Kingdom (UK)
· Canada
· Republic of Ireland (Ireland)
· Singapore
· United States of America (USA)
· Hong Kong
· EU member states where then nursing education meets the EU directive 77/453.
Waiving of the Registration Bridging Program requirement may occur when the applicant can provide
evidence of registration as a nurse with a registering authority AND satisfactory evidence of experience
as a registered nurse for 12 months (full time equivalent):
· UK
· Ireland
· USA
· Canada
This experience must have occurred within 6 months prior to the application being submitted to the
Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia.
Midwife Pathway
Applicants who have completed an education program leading to registration / license / eligibility as a
midwife in one of the following countries may waiver the Registration Bridging Program:
· UK
· Ireland
· EU member states where then nursing education meets the EU directive 80/155
Waiving of the Registration Bridging Program requirement may occur when the applicant can provide
evidence of registration as a midwife with a registering authority AND satisfactory evidence of
experience as a midwife for 12 months (full time equivalent):
· UK
· Ireland
This experience must have occurred within 6 months prior to the application being submitted to the
Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia.
